So here's my story  i started LCHF on the 5th on January 2016 and to date i feel awesome:D
I went from a 89.9kg to 78kg. I now fit into a 34 jeans and clothes feel and look great.
About 2 weeks ago i did a cholesterol test and it was perfect. 4.0

Now this morning i went to the nurses at work to assist with something on their laptop and did a quick cholesterol test,it was extremely high. 7.1.

Now my question is, i went to the gym and then came home and had a whey protein shake and then within 2 hours i did the test. Could this contribute to it been so high?

Tomorrow morning i scheduled a another test but this time i will be doing a fast, just to make sure:o

What specific part of your cholesterol was being measured? Which particles?

If your LCHF'ing and have done your research properly you would know that cholesterol is completely irrelevant to heart disease and pretty much anything else actually. Ignore it, the ONLY reason to get a cholesterol test is for medical aid because they still have backwards thinking.

EDIT: quick google, haven't read any of these but they'll give you an idea:

As it happens, I doubt that whey protein could have such a large impact. It is just protein after all. Also bear in mind that as ScottulusMaximus says, a cholesterol test like that really has no meaning.

To really get an accurate picture, you need to know the average size of your high density and low density cholesterol particles (or liporoteins I should say)

Listen to what this man has to say. ^^^^^^

Cholesterol should be tested on an empty stomach. Your whey protein shake would have affected the accuracy of the test and it would of course also depend on what whey shake it was and if you had it with milk. The whey protein and carbs in the shake are absorbed faster, but the fats are still be absorbed and are in your bloodstream after 2 hours which would cause an inaccurate LDL reading.

7.1 could be a combination of LDL and HDL....

though i know for a fact the krispy kremes affect measurement.
i did a measurement at around 4.3 week 1.
ate an original glazed KK every day for about 10 days and did another test .. was at 5.1

Whey protein and the amount u take has a BIG impact on cholesterol.. in fact if you have a naturally high level (>4) then i suggest you take pills to reduce it when taking whey or get better quality whey(cheaper stuff has more). Read the label on the side, it tells you how much it contains per serving etc

2ndly you should have starvation test for cholesterol and glucose as it get influenced by foods briefly(more glucose). For me, when i take whey my cholesterol level goes from+/- 4.1 to between 4.8-5.2 unless i adjusted food and/or took anti-cholesterol pills (and then it drops to under 4 :D)

The finger prick test for Cholesterol can also be very inaccurate, it can be out by almost 3 units in same cases giving people a false sense of security.

The best way is to approach your doctor and ask for a referral to have blood drawn at one of the many blood labs. They will also be able to tell you what your HDL and LDL levels are, LDL being the bad one.

A fasting lipogram is the most accurate cholesterol test , nil per mouth for at least 8 hrs.

^this...but first off, congrats..taking your well being into your own hands. I also started off on a LCHF about 6 months ago..these days, I do not touch readily available carbs...so much so, the craving for the ****ers are gone. I have shed 6 kilos, lean is my new bio description. When I started my cholesterol was 4.4... I have an annual checkup with my doc, where she does everything...- as I suffer from hypertension, and are on a couple of classes of meds to keep my bp in a normal range, test are to make sure, that meds are not causing some other issues somewhere. Anyways...after about 5 months of my diet, I had one of those cholesterol prick test, and it was up to 5.4 - did not even get my vitality bonus, for being in range :( Anyways, chatted to my doc...and she was like, that is just your total count, we have to see what it breaks down into, had a test...bang was my good cholesterol that was way up..Side note...I modified my diet to cut out most of the fattiness that banting suggests...and still maintaining the same energy levels.

I once got 11 on one of these, then a couple of months later 3.4.

I don't trust the results at all.

You cant eat or drink anything after 22:00 if the test is the next day.

And what happens when all that cholesterol cloggs an artery?

It doesn't.

Read the latest research on cholesterol.

Even the USDA has taken cholesterol off its naughty list, and the USDA is INCREDIBLY conservative. In other words, they would only have taken cholesterol off the naughty list if it was very obvious that it was not harmful.
