Can you tell the difference between PC and PS4 graphics?

AC: U is so broken, unfair test.

What graphics settings was the PC put on?

Another problem is that all these games are designed for console are then ported to PC, if you had a game only designed for PC you would see a difference.

All games are designed to work on consoles settings. So how can you make a comparison if all the base lines are low to start off with.

Plenty of side by side comparisons on youtube, go watch them at 1080p and you see the difference, not to mention frame rates.

It's absurd to say ps4 looks as good as pc when graphics wise pc has multiple times the power of a ps4. Unless you downgrade your pc to entry level 2 generations ago (geforce 670?) then yes I guess pc might look as kuk as ps4.

Kinda pointless comparing promotional videos, console promo videos are all rendered on pc.

I'm no graphics whore (most of the time), but ps4 isn't able to compare to a mid-level pc. Not certain what's to debate, it's hardware :/.

I wasn't aware that a decision to game on console or PC was influenced by graphics? Back in the PS2-3 days perhaps, but lately?

Well yeah hardware is hardware, but there are some killer looking PS4/XBone games like Destiny. If a developer works on a single platform to create a game they can get some amazing results out of it and I don't think you'd look too closely to say that this or that feature would look better on a PC.

Ultimately it's about the game yeah. But for folks who prefer a near uhd experience when gaming, well, it's their preference.
Personally, I'd choose a game with crappy graphics but excellent gameplay and story. An unrushed game.

Phantasy star 4 is still one of my favorite titles.

I find these video comparisons pointless and nothing like a real world test.

The biggest thing about a good gaming PC is that you can put the resolution as high as you want/can/monitor allows with additional things such as anti aliasing.

Lets take Battlefield 4 on PS4 for instance. If I remember correctly it runs at 1600x900. This is lower than the average PC gamer running this game right now (1920x1080). It's also been said BF4 on PS4 is comparable to the medium to high settings on PC, but things like ground textures look really dull on PS4, I'd say some settings are closer to the low setting.

When you see both these platforms running the game right in front of your eyes, the difference is night and day. At least for me. These 2 consoles (PS4 and Xbone) simply can't run this game at max.

There are some multiplatform games however where the PC version looks the same graphically (shadows, textures etc) as their console counterparts. This is simply because no additional work has been done on the PC version. A straight port.

You simply can't compare an actual game made with PC in mind to a game made to run well on a console. Console isn't and shouldn't compete with a PC in the visual department.

There is literally no limit to how great a PC game can look. It's up to the developers.

Any game will look better on PC by resolution alone. I hate these silly comparisons.

I would say that statement applies more to consoles than PCs.

PC developers have to be able to sell their games to a wide variety of customers, they can't just go out and say that a specific game requires 8GB of video memory as a minimum. They have to set a minimum requirement for their games, whilst as you say making the game look as good as possible for the people with too much money to spend.

With console exclusives, the argument does stand as they know exactly what capabilities the machine has to run on. In fact they even know what resolution it will run at as well. With those two things, they can design the game to look as good as possible.

That is the technical side of things, for the most part, games are looking fantastic on all platforms and telling the difference between a cross platform game is not as easy as it was.

Yes they can, look at Star Citizen.

And again, as I said before, the comparison in the original article are pointless - promotional videos are all created on pc anyway. Hell at gaming conventions the console demos are all running on pc.

That's a very special case. Your average AAA developer can't do that, because it will hamper sales.

For now, maybe. Give it a year and you'll be able to tell the difference at a glance. Console hardware is barely up to scratch with mid-range PCs. There's only so much they can do with hardware that doesn't change.
