French media giant increases stake in DStv-owner MultiChoice

MultiChoice has notified shareholders that French media company Groupe Canal+ SA has increased its stake in the company to 20.12%.

"MultiChoice remains committed to acting in the best interest of all shareholders and to create sustainable long-term shareholder value," the DStv owner stated.

The French are an odd bunch

Yeah well with the weak Rand they are just getting good value. I think they might be after SuperSport and they are buying a lot of good skills / technology for pretty cheap. I remember around 2012/2013 the junior rugby world cup was there and the broadcast quality was shocking. I am sure they have improved but even will all the hate DSTV/Supersport gets the broadcast quality is generally very good

I must admit, although I don’t like them, MultiChoice is a well-run company. It’s a pity that the SABC can’t follow suit.

“Vivendi thinks MultiChoice is a well-run company that will continue to grow,” Mawela said.

Well the rand hasn't lost that much ground to the Euro, the dollar is just outstripping everything right now.
Seems that all you need to do is have a lot of shootings and strip women of their rights.

Agreed the dollar has strengthened a lot while the euro has stayed flat over the past few months (see its almost 1:1 was around 1-1.2 in April) but the value you get in SA is still incredible and probably safer than other 3rd world countries Russia, Argentina, Turkey etc.

What do they see in Multichoice's future which no one else see?
A means of controlling the narrative of their former colonies which they still leech off.

I've been trying to get my DSTV subscription reactivated and support is unable to help and hardly call back.

Edit: I just tried again and managed to activate streaming only for now.

Cries to chuck the French out of Africa, but when the commies want to offload a few shares and turn a capitalist buck, they're welcome..

I wonder if the anc and their opportunistic bee cadres can even spell hypocricy.
