Cancel Afrihost and switch to another ISP

Not too bad :) Now I have to decide whether to get WA Business or Home Uncapped. This time, I want to be F-U-L-L-Y INFORMED re the pros and cons of these packages before signing up.

Tell me, from your experiences, how long does it typically take to recover fully from 1 star? I imagine my WA weekend usage pattern would look like this:

(1) Abuse the account until it drops all the stars.
(2) Let it recover fully
(3) Go to (1) and repeat.

I prefer Connection.co.za and Plugg to Web Africa as they don't have 30 day cancellation policies.

Stars work on a 7 or 10 (can never remember that one :p) day rolling window.

IS is definitely top of the pops in my book, especially if you're at work during the day and only need internet after 5pm :).

Stars work on a ten day rolling window. The more you download in a ten day period the less stars you get.

Downloads between midnight and 6am don't count.

If you really worried you can get a spare back up capped account if your stars get really low and use that once every 10days to bring the average down.

But that shouldn't be needed if you download at midnight.

On business the thresholds are higher so stars fall slow slower. You also get higher priority on the network.

But again like I said. Even when shaped because stars are low after 5pm it gets better.

I'm permanently on 3stars and the account is perfect. Too lazy to swap to my spare capped account once a week.

Sorry to hijack thread :), but how does one check their star rating ?

or use one to download over weekends and the other for daytime weekday use?

Yeah, IS > MTN any day :p

DarkSpectre has a 2mb line ;)

I don't download a lot during daytime :p I just want to be able to download something that I need for my studies without resorting to silly Turbocharge crap. Boy, it cost money  Not to mention you don't have to wait until 12AM for the shaping to tone down

Took the plunge and signed up for WA home uncapped.
6mbps line. Took the 10mbps package for R499 PM.

Speedtest results...
Ping: 8ms (great)
Down: 4.17Mbps (wtf?)
Up: 0.36Mbps (even bigger wtf?)

Not great so far. Will see if it improves.

Downloads may be shaped, but it's nothing like AH, http is normally 50%, P2P/NNTP 25% speed, still usable in my book.

Now you'll have to wait two months to cancel :p

My guess is you have a background download going somewhere.

I use Kerio Control as my gateway. Can see all devices and current usage in real time. Nada going on.

Sabnzbd is cruising at 620kb/s now though so all good for now.
About to hit the Xbox. The real test.

Ahh ok I was wondering because I'm on OW at the moment and couldn't see an option for star rating. Thanks..

/end thread hijack :D

Lets bow our heads for this poor soul and hope salvation will soon be found.
