Hey guys, so I typically don't use Uber but use it when being responsible etc.

Off to a long wine tasting even today that's a bit far away and ordered an Uber.

Uber was 3 min away literally a few blocks away next thing I see, on the highway and 18mim away after 10 min... Wtf... So I canceled.

So the amount 250ish already off the credit card is this just refunded?

Anyone had a similar situation

There will prob be a cancellation fee incurred so you will get partially refunded

I am not sure how it works but I have heard stories of some drivers using cancellations to make money

You will have to go to view trips in the app, select the trip that you cancelled and there will be an option: "review cancellation charge" - normally in those cases the cancellation fee will be reversed.

Had exact same thing yesterday, driver accepted my trip and ended up going from a 3 min wait, to a 15 min delay.

Reason I stopped using Uber, the guys do this quite often to scam you out of money . I had so many experiences like this one.

Last time I used Uber it had a cash option. Do they still have it and if so why not just do a cash trip?

how does it scam you?

They basically never pitch and you end up having to pay cancellation fee for that even though it’s not your fault. So they keep making money for not rendering or even attempting to render a service. Sounds like a scam to me

This. I have never been charged when I did this. The GPS tracks u and the driver so nothing to worry about.
I never had any issues with uber whatsoever

Yeah, report it. Uber help is used to dealing with drunks, so it not a huge deal if your story doesn't add up.

Uber will pick up that the driver never arrived and won't charge the fee. When it happens to me I always lodge a complaint against the driver as well.

Alright, I would say I will try this but I won’t be using them again in anycase. But now I know in case I really really really really need to use them.

To be fair, I don't think many people use uber unless they are drunk. Last time I used an uber was because I wanted to drop off my car to Honda for service and before that when I was picking that car up from the dealership. So that makes it two in total.

You pay a cancellation fee to Uber and the driver because of the drivers actions and you don't get your trip.

And you report them and then get it refunded and then they lose their jobs.

This kind of issue resolves itself pretty quickly.

I’ve never experienced it in SA, only in Sri Lanka.

By the way they aren’t trying to scam you. They just take another better paying drive, likely with a different service they are two timing for.

They never make anything.

You report it and get refunded. They never saw any money.

The money they did see came from somewhere else more worth their while. They also don’t last long on Uber.

Plenty of people use Uber daily, perfectly sober too.

In fact I would guess most of their clientele are actually of that variety.

Also tourists, or travelling business people will use Uber all the time everywhere.
