Please add your comment to this thread if you have cancelled your Sentech contract as a result of Sentech discontinuing their MyWireless 128k, 256k, and 512k packages. It would be worthwhile to get an idea of how much Sentech has damaged itself by executing this poorly thought out and greedy change. I cancelled mine immediately.

On these packages you were entitled to use 10GB, 20GB and 30GB respectively. By cancelling these packages and trying to move you to the Flexi packages they are reducing the bandwidth you can use by a huge factor - in the case of the MyWireless 256k package you had a 20GB "soft cap" for R699 per month. The Flexi 3GB package costs R699 - that is an 85% reduction in service for the same price!!!

There is no longer any logical reason for using Sentech. Competitors like iBurst make much more sense, because they are faster, have better coverage, and in many cases are effectively cheaper:

1. Sentech, with poor coverage and 256k speed costs R699 for 3GB.
2. iBurst, with much wider and expanding coverage and 1mbps speed costs R599 for 3GB.
3. And if you really need the mobility, given that Sentech's coverage has barely grown in 2 years, MTN or Vodacom 3G/HSDPA running at up to 1.8mbps will cost R599 per GB.
4. Lastly, if you can get ADSL in your area and you can live with a fixed line solution, then for R594 per month (excluding line rental) you get a 384kbps line with minmum 3GB (Telkom now has a pooled capping system which means you'll probably get more than 3GB every month).

The biggest issue for me, though, after the cost, remains the coverage. In nearly 3 years of supporting Sentech, they have hardly grown their coverage, and there are still large areas in the major centres where you cannot get a Sentech signal. In half this time iBurst and the cell companies' 3G/HSDPA networks have expanded their coverage to pretty much blanket coverage of the major cities.

Reading the Sentech forum and based on personal experience, it seems clear that Sentech is a badly run organisation with no conception of customer relations or service standards. I am well rid of them, and I would urge any remaining Sentech customers to look carefully and logically at whether there is any point to them.

wish i could cancel, i'm on contract, would get my iburst 2 day if i could. been down the whole day, f%ck

Waiting for them to call and tell me where I'm at. If they try and insist that I take a Flexi package I'm moving to iBurst. Only a matter of time now.

My contract is with Nowire and they havent mentioned a thing about package changes.

Im using well over 3GB per month, and get no complaints about it

I am seriously thinking about ADSL though on a 6Gb or 9Gb package

Same here how bloody stupid are the people at nowire they going to remove the only reason why people stay with them so in the end we going to pay more for less with just the same *** service sounds like a proudly south african package to me

Yep us contract bound customers are in for the long haul - I've got 22 months to go. On the flip side things could get better :)

I'm on contract as well , with 12 more months to go!Is there any way (considering the changes) to make an offer to Nowire to get out of (read terminate)the contract?

Heard about this from the helpdesk today so our initial suspicions have been confirmed and the inevitable has arrived. We run 6 PC's here and I have received the odd call about the "excessive usage":). When my initial contract expired, I upgraded and asked them to extend my contract for a further 2 years but it remains to be seen whether that was ignored (just lost all my email so I dont have proof but then if they don't have the email there is also no proof that I requested an upgrade!). Even though it is sloooow, I considered it to be the cheapest high capped unshaped service. Having been on the 256 and now the 512, I don't believe there is a huge speed advantage. I obviously don't need to move around so I am considering the ADSL route - Any ideas? Having said that, I haven't looked at Iburst but if they were sold recently I wonder about their long term viability.

According to Sentech, the majority of the clients do not need high caps so I wonder why they would pay the R449 (ex modem) for a speed of 12.8k (256k with 20 people sharing - thats the last ratio I heard) for a 1 Gig cap when you can pay R320 (ex modem) for 384k with a 1 gig international / 10 gig local cap for DSL. Seeing that Mywireless has limited coverage and that the low cap users are going to get wise, I think that Sentech will have to at least halve the current flexi costs to draw customers. I have used Mywireless since the launch and have not recommended it to any home user because of price versus speed.

I'll start my reseach now and await the call.

well, the contract was for a MyWireless Classic... if they attmept to change it, they are in breach of the contract and therefore the contract can be deamed null and void.

i hope that is the case, then they can cancel my contract with effect NOW...

ADSL here we come

Hi,

This comes at a perfect time for me. I have a date of 14 Sep for my ADSL installation.

Sentech call center guy said hopefully with all the people cancelling contracts that I should stay with them as speeds would increase as the contention would go down! but max speed only 256k.

We're cancelling just as soon as I can get an ADSL line in here. Hopefully within a month...

384K ADSL with 10GB cap will cost little more than Sentech 256k.

Read your contract carefully. They can easily cancel the contract at any time. You cannot. Did you really think Sentech was going to give you a contract to cover your interests?

I also cancelled and ordered adsl. This was just to much to handle... was seriously considering to cancel when they kept charging me for the modem when the contract had expired and refused to pay back the money. So this was just the last straw.

Telkom call centre was 100 times better than sentech help desk when I ordered adsl yesterday.

Well, I can only imagine you got through to a very good Telkom employee.. Ive had bad experiences with Telkoms call centre and tier service even thoug I dont have ADSL, I ordered it once, two moths waiting list.
