Hi Guys,
ok my parents initially took out a 24 month contract with Telkom and its currently in its 8 month.
now i have moved into my own place and we orginally had the plan to simply transfer the line over.
It has been 2 months of excuses from thier side like the fact they are 'testing the area' whilst my cottage neighbour 10 metres away has adsl 4mbps. Now im gonna have to wait it out for the physical line to still be installed and setup for adsl but once im up and running im interested in the process of cancelling the 5gb package we have with them.is it possible? what are the catches. ive always had amazing support from them but this time they are just messing about. any help appreciated

Are your transfering the ADSL line or service as a whole? (i.e. telephone and ADSL). You don't mention whether you contracted on the ADSL line or DO bundle because they generally you need to transfer the whole service else it will be a cancellation without manual intervention.

What also was asked previously and not really answered was if you want to cancel the Do Broadband part what is the criteria for that? Would ou only pay for the modem recieved and then the contract can be cancelled or would it be like a cell phone where you pay a cancelation fee for the remainder of the contract?

The last I signed, cancellation only requires you to pay back the modem apportioned by the no months of the contract. You did not need to pay the subscription for the remaining period as explained by the agent.

Hey man, I am moving into a place without a line and without any chance of a line (Tellkom won't install unless 90% of the residents apply)...

I called Telkom and the said they will charge me about R75 per month for the remaining period of the contract...

From their site "DSL Free modem Bundled offering Terms and Conditions

The Bundled offering is subject to all of the above terms and conditions as well as the following conditions:

If the customer cancels the service before the 24-month contractual agreement period has lapsed, the customer will be penalized according to a sliding scale for early cancellation penalties, which is equal to R62.19 VAT excl multiplied by the outstanding months of the contract which will be levied on the customers final account.

Whenever a new DSL Bundle Contractual Agreement is entered into, the customer will receive a new FREE WiFi modem with 4 Ethernet ports while stocks last. Customers that prefer a USB modem can opt for one instead of the WiFi modem if available.

Customers subscribed to the 24 month DSL bundled offering remain liable for the penalty under the following conditions:

Where a customer opts to:

* Discontinue the DSL Bundle service prior to the completion of the term of the contractual agreement.
* Transfer the service and retain DSL Bundle, but Telkom is not able to perform the transfer due to a number any reason (i.e. conformance testing failed, exchange is not DSL compatible or due to no infrastructure etc.)
* Where the customer wishes to upgrade his modem, before 18 months has lapsed, the customer will be liable to pay penalties for the remainder of the contractual agreement period. A new contractual agreement for 24 months must be entered into for the customer to receive a new free modem via Telkom Delivery or to be collected at the nearest Telkom Direct Shop.

Where a customer opts to transfer his service and retain the DSL bundle, and Telkom is able to perform the transfer without a number change the customer's Contractual Agreement will not be affected, thus no penalty will apply.

Tariffs are subject to change."
