The roaming issues currently leaves me with no option but to cancel my Telkom contract. It's a fairly new contract having ported my number from Vodacom. I am aware that I will pay a cancellation fee and already calculated this amount. My concern is making sure that I do not lose my number.

1. If I cancel, does my number move to prepaid after the cancellation is finalised?
2. Is it possible to port the number to Vodacom before doing the cancellation?

My problem is that at the office in Pinelands, Cape Town, where there is more than sufficient Telkom coverage, my phone switches over to TelkomSA-R. When I'm connected to TelkomSA-R, I cannot make or receive phone calls and when I try to make a call it says that I'm not registered on the network even though it is connected. When people try to call me they get a message that the number they dialed does not exist. WTF.

I could roam directly on Vodacom but this seems to no longer be possible this morning. The Telkom call centre is completely useless and have no idea how to fix this.

Telkom roaming with VC is broken and they do not seem interested in trying to resolve this.

You can only port once it’s been flipped to prepaid.

So you’d need to get the contract cancelled first.

Does cancelling the contract revert the sim to prepaid? Or does it cancel the sim?

Just not prepared to lose the number.

I am in the same boat and have instructed Telkom to cancel my contract. My fees to pay for the cancellation is R1600.

30 days and I have instructed them to move me to prepaid, therefore keeping my number

Just completed the instruction on their website. Let's see when they call back, if they can even reach me on this number.

Basically you need to cancel the contract and ask them to switch it to Prepaid.

Then once done you can port it.
