I want to cancel my TelkomInternet account, but can anyone just let me know how it works?

Do they need a months notice? If I cancel today, will I be charged for April?

What number do I call, so that my ADSL Line it self wont be cancelled as well (That would be a screw up:wtf:)

Thanks!!

Be careful though, if you're still on contract, they will charge you for the remainder of your contract term. Just like a cellphone contract...

Just phone Telkom Internet (number should be in the front of the phonebook, but I think it is 10215 or something. They will be able to assist you with the cancellation and the time frames

The number is 10219 for residential, and 10217 for business.

AFAIK, there are no contracts on the ISP part of your line. However, if you received a free modem, then you are bound to a 24 month contract on the ADSL line rental. So you can cancel the ISP part (TelkomInternet) and sign up with your own ISP, but you can't sign up for those all-in-one packages which include ADSL line rental, and require you to migrate your ADSL line from Telkom to your ISP. You'll have to take a data-only package.

Been wondering about that. Now I get it.
Thank you:)

Could someone please confirm this? I signed up with mweb and still have 6 months to go on my telkom contract. If it is just on the line, that is no problem!

The best thing to do is to phone Telkom and ask them. It's not like the old days. All of my calls to Telkom over the last year were answered in under 5 minutes, and the agents were friendly, helpful and trained well. You can ask them if you are on contract or not, whether the ISP part is part of the contract or not, and what will happen if you cancel. It's really simple.

Lucky, I SHOULDN'T have any contracts anymore. The only one we signed was back in march 2007. So its been 3 years now.
Will give them a call and here what they have to say.

I WISH IT WAS STILL LIKE THIS!!!

Today, I phoned telkom just after 15:00 and waited for 48minutes ( I actually timed the calls) SHARP before someone picked up. Just when I asked for the women to Cancel my account, she disappeared... Phoned again 15 minutes later and waited till 17:20 and then I gave up!!!! omf, now I'm gonna pay for another whole month, just because they cant answer... FML!

May I suggest you stick with Telkom for the time being. A) They don't time out like all these uncapped accounts and B) Just watch, Telkom will most likely upgrade everyone free of charge to uncapped on the SAIX network rather then all these others that are bottle necked (IS, Seacom ect). Heck what you got to lose, you can just cancel if they don't deliver in like a month or so.

I also tried to cancel today. Called 10219, the guy said the system is down, but he'll cancel it as soon as the system comes back on. So by 3pm I notice my TI account is still connectible, so I call again and the lady said the system is still off. She assured me that a note has been made and that I won't have to pay for next month. I hope not. Tomorrow I'm going to town, then I'll stop by the telkom shop to sort it out.

Decided to Keep my TI going. It is 35 gigs of unencumbered bandwidth, and it may help me from getting too badly shaped on the new uncapped account, plus the Saix NS is still pretty decent. Of course, it does help that I'm able to run multiple simultaneous connections via a script on my router. Thought it was a goner, but the script lives on...

Strange. I'm in JHB, you're in KZN. Maybe we're getting routed to different call centers? I swear all my calls have been answered in under 5 minutes over the last year, irrespective of time of day (office hours of course). I've also mostly received excellent service, except for a few complicated issues that required the intervention of a supervisor. Maybe the KZN call center is under-staffed, under-trained, and up to sh|t?

Can somebody who has successfully cancelled their telkom internet contract confirm this? I've still got 20 months left on mine, and I was under the impression that I have to keep it until the 20 months is up. But if I can change ISP's, i'll do it tomorrow!

I can confirm it. I've cancelled a TelkomInternet account (i.e. ISP account) for a business client. However, I couldn't cancel the 24 month contract on the ADSL line rental, as my client signed up for it and received the free Telkom modem. Just phone Telkom and they will explain it to you.

If you subscribed to a do bundle then you cannot cancel the internet part without penalty. This is based on my father who had a DO 1 bundle and cancelled the internet part after the 24 months. When the phone bill came there was a line item on the account for an adsl contact cancellation which was for R0 (the contact was passed 24 months) He retained the ADSL line so it looks like if you took a do bundle with a free router you cannot cancel the internet account as it is a change in package. When I originally has the Telkom ADSL Supreme bundle back many years I was informed I could only migrate to 512k (fastest offering) without penalty. When I cancelled to go to 4Mbps I had to pay a cancellation fee which was a credit (???) so you can chance your luck too if you want!

It looks like it depends what product you took with the free modem i.e. you cannot downgrade.

WRT to the long wait from Cape Town I waited 50min to cancel my account and when I got through I was told their system was down and they couldnt cancel my account - couldnt even send a fax to put my cancellation request on record. Had to wait another 50min to cancel later in the day.

Why in this day and age do people sign up for 24 month (or any other length) contracts?
