Cancelling VITALITY

The healthy food amount is never as much as the monthly fee for Vitality. Most of the offers are pointless. Basically spending money on things we wouldn't buy otherwise to get a discount.

Our groceries remained fairly static - but the payments were erratic, some months nothing, some a R100 - some R700. One of my biggest gripes is you have no way of verfiying what you get back (e.g. Food/Dischen/etc).

We probably made R200-R300pm more than the fee while on Diamond with Vitality.

Works for me, about R1300 back a month between the bank and healthy shopping. Sitting on Diamond with bank and gold with vitality. Think i was at about R900 when i could only reach gold on bank due to not having a pension or property so still in the positive. With the vouchers/movies an extra bonus every now and then. Saying that you have to actively spend a few minutes each week just making sure you doing everything you need to do. Rest of my family pays the R390 or whatever it is and then just moans endlessly that they get nothing back. People lazy to cancel and lazy to work through the system and discovery swallows their money. Whatever scheme you go with it feels you just need to go all in be it ebucks/ucounts/discovery. As soon as you spread things out you get nailed.

But technically aren’t you paying more in order to get these increased benefits? I don’t spend much so I don’t get into high brackets etc.

No not paying more. Both scenarios I am on the platinum for the bank (2nd lowest one). Think its about R250-R300 in fees for the suite including vitality money if i have it correct. Thinking about moving up to the next tier on the bank as it increases your cap on the healthy food reward but it also increases your spending goal and currently quite happy with the Woolworths card rewards once i cap out my spending on Discovery each month. Not really wanting to do more on their credit card as the miles are terrible once you have hit your spending goal.

I think the point @RunningFromFat was trying to make is that to earn more "rewards", you actually have to spend more by signing up for more Discovery products. So, the actual value you get is taking the total of your "rewards" and subtracting all your monthly fees (Vitality, golf bank suite, etc) from that amount and then you'll see what you're really earning.

From my perspective, there's not much of a cost savings each month. For example, you get a 75% discount on a gym membership, 50% off movie tickets, and some discounts on certain types of food. It still adds up to roughly the same amounts but instead of spending money on the gym, movies, and shops, you're paying it to Discovery. It's alright though, since it makes it a bit more fun by giving you points and "rewards" for everyday activities.

I think if you are already planning on using Discovery products and you are already buying healthy foods and going to the gym, etc, then you would see some kind of saving.

Otherwise, it would be like buying a 3-for-2 deal when only need 1.

011 529 7504 is the correct number. I just had a 20 minute conversation with an agent. It's being canceled now.

20 minute as he was obviously trained in "retentions" and trying to get me to stay. Even offered the cheaper version of the product (which would cost R158 without the kids instead of R465 for the whole family).
I explained that I've been on the program since August last year, paid my subscription every month, and hadn't used a single benefit. Not a single one.

During the conversation he mentioned something about Vitality trying to save their clients money, and I responded with surely you guys can easily see who is one the program but not registered for even 1 benefit. And what are you doing about that? Nothing. You're happy to knowingly take the money while those clients are receiving exactly zero benefits. How is that helping your clients "save money"?

If I was in charge there, and I want to increase retention, I would make damn sure my clients are actually using my product. I mean, is that not obvious?

Anyway, they're canceling it so that frees up nearly R500 a month for me.

Thanks for this Thread and the help.

I've been wanting to cancel mine for a while....

Stupid question but how does one find your Vitality number and the other details they want for cancelling? I logged in to the website, but it is totally useless.
