Cannabis & Shroom Trip Thread

No, but we have a large san pedro in the garden

South Africa probably has the ideal climate for those things. I probably saw San Pedro and just didn't what it was at the time.

If I ever live in South Africa again, I'll get a huge back garden and fill it with psychedelic cacti of various kinds. This is partially because I'm a fan of psychedelics, but also because they are cool plants. I find them very interesting, but then I like growing pretty much anything.

Has anyone got any experience with psychedelic cacti?

I've ordered a 50cm cutting of Bridgesii, which will be arriving soon. Its perfectly legal to order the plants, but illegal to eat them. Go figure.

You'll need a length of about your forearm, so 50cm sounds good? The active part is in the outer most skin, so there's a way of preparing it by removing the skin and leaving the white stuff inside alone.

I've only tried a dose once, but unfortunately the amount given wasn't enough for me to experience anything, I'd definitely say take more rather than less. I've also microdosed with it, to varying effects.

Anyway, I wouldn't be to worried taking it, 12 hours is on the very extreme end. Apparently it's a very comforting trip, unlike shrooms. Besides the occasional purge, the people I was with seemed to be enjoying their trip while hiking out in nature.

Keep us posted though!

Yeah, 50cm should be more than enough. All of the reports I've read have said the opposite - that you want the green flesh, but you don't want the skin or the white core. Anyway, another report said that it actually matters less than you think and you can just boil the whole lot. That mescaline on its own is enough to give you nausea, so no matter what you do, you won't make cacti suddenly non nauseating.

You're right. I didn't express myself properly. The outermost layer is a waxy skin that you don't want.

Heh - was driving to my parents, saw a large cactus outside someones house in their flowerbed. Knocked on the door to ask for a cutting, dude sent me to his son who had more growing. Gave me a pot and everything. Cool people. Still have the pot & cactus at my parents house & a post on shroomery asking about it.

close to which city was this. I'm also looking for some cacti to try. Will give it all the love it deserves

So I did this.

I bought a 50cm piece of Bridgesii. T Bridgesii (also E Lageniformis) is a relative of San Pedro. Trip reports online report it as generally more potent than San Pedro. Scientific studies of both show that San Pedro can be a lot weaker or a lot stronger than Bridgesii, depending on genetics, time of year, luck, etc etc. But that bridgesii is more consistent, so you're less likely to get a dud.

I cut it into pieces and boiled it for about 2 hours. Then pour that liquid off, added new water, and cooked for another 2 hours. Repeated the process once more, mashed the stuff around a bit, then threw away the remaining plant material. I reduced the liquid down to a thick syrup, and then to a resin, which is incredibly sticky. Adding sugar to it makes it less sticky, but I think I wasted a good bit of it just because it got stuck to dishes etc.

Anyway, this morning at 9:30, I took about 70% of the resin. I should clarify - I had about 556g of cactus to work with, after removing both ends to grow new plants from. I reduced that 556g to around 10-11g, with some wastage, and then added sugar until it was about 17g. I took 12g of that 17g and the rest is in the freezer. Next time I'll use the freezer earlier, because it stops being sticky. I think the answer is to pour it into wax paper, then put that in the freezer. Then it isn't sticky and you waste less.

Anyway, back to the trip report. About an hour after I took it, I started noticing stuff. The usual stuff you notice at the beginning of a trip - slight body load, mental alterations. It took 2-3 hours for visual distortions to appear. I didn't have any open eye hallucinations, but if I stared at a spot and let my focus drift, objects would appear to be waving or moving of their own accord.

Compared to mushrooms, I'd say that I felt much more keen to get out and go for a walk. Not sedating at all, if anything it will make it more difficult to sleep. I've gone to sleep while tripping on shrooms before, I don't think I could do that on mescaline.

I would have been peaking around 1:30PM, which is exactly when I went for a walk. I felt a little self conscious, but mentally completely lucid, and I could have had a conversation and you would not have noticed. It is kinda nice actually, knowing that you are on some kind of a trip and yet have such a completely clear mind.

I found a nice bench to sit on, and just sat and thought about stuff while basking in the sun for a good hour. It was great. During that time, I reflected on where I am going. Could I have done this without mescaline? Yeah, probably, although for some reason I'm not sure I would have come to the same realisations. Nothing incredibly profound, just like a take stock of your life and where it is going moment.

I did some work in the morning, on personal projects, and I found that I came to one or two realisations that I'm not sure I would have.

Haven't really felt any euphoria, although in general I'd say I've felt good during the trip.

I didn't throw up, although I did experience nausea, and it has been pretty persistent. Like, I'd be hungry but also not really feel like eating anything at the same time.

Major downsides for me are the body load and the duration. First, the body load. I think what I mean here is that it makes my skin a lot more sensitive. Consequently, I can't decide if I'm too hot or too cold. I tend to feel comfortable sitting down or lying down, if I'm correctly clothed. I kinda don't like the sensation.

Duration - it is 12 hours later now, and I'm mentally back to normal but my skin still feels tingly. That is one thing I like about mushrooms - you have your fun and then its gone and you can get back to normal.

The interesting thing is that I think both have their uses. I still want to do another mescaline trip with a higher dosage. Eating the full amount rather than the 70% that I ate. I think I did underdose a little this time, but not badly. Good first time dose maybe.

But I think mescaline might be at its best, for me anyway, microdosed. Especially with my work as a programmer being part logical and part creative, I think taking this stuff in a microdose form (1/10th or less what I had today) could be amazing.

Mushrooms are way more introspective. When I take mushrooms, I tend to journey deep into inner worlds. Mescaline, at least the dose I took, was the opposite. I thought of myself in relation to other things - my journey mostly.

<Snipped to prevent wall of quote>

I think you hit the nail on the head with your experience.

Like you mentioned , and is my experience too, is it's often a too low dose, but at least you did have some experience to build on.

I found this article has some valuable information:

Yeah.

I would like to have the full experience, but actually the only thing that scares me is how long it lasts. I mean, scary is the wrong word - it gets irritating. I had trouble sleeping last night because of it. I was still having closed eye visuals 13 hours after taking it.

I think next time, I'll do a full dose, but I'll start it earlier, like 6AM. Hopefully then I'd be able to have a better night's sleep.

So I bought another cactus cutting. Previous one was bridgesii, this time I bought a san pedro cutting. It was a monster, weighing 1.8kg. I thought to myself, "Lekker!".

So I cooked it down, eventually ending up with 38g of tar. Actually more concentrated than the previous tar, I've got better at making it.

Yesterday (had a day off work), I took 6.8g of tar, which should have been equivalent to 300g of cactus. Nothing. No effects. Not even a little buzz.

So that was a waste of time!

My favourite experience is the lemon tek method with shrooms. 4g. Rapid onset, shorter trip, much more intense. Taken early in the morning (7am) or so, it gives me a fantastic afternoon nap. Feeling refreshed, a little brain addled - nothing that strong coffee can't sort out, and a body high, like walking on clouds. Working towards heroic doses.

I recently prepared myself 15g of dried San Pedro powder and then added a tablespoon someone else prepared. I took this on an empty stomach. Some mild effects about 45min later with the peak taking a lot longer to kick in. Nothing super hectic, maybe some closed eye visuals, but a general feeling of euphoria. The nausea was annoying though.

I'd like to try peyote some time, won't ever bother with san pedro etc. again. Any of you tried peyote?

Nope. Isn't it difficult to find, and takes forever to grow?

It is difficult to find, takes ages to grow, and if you find it in the wild (it only grows in the wild in America), removing it is ethically responsible if you ask me.

Try bridgesii. I mean, maybe I had zero potency san pedro, but if you get your hands on bridgesii, at least it is fairly reliably potent.
