Im not sticking around for 1st Nov. cr@p. My cousin has happily been using a local WISP for monthes now and i think its time 2 switch.

Telkom's website has no procedure on canceling their ADSL lines. I phoned and they want me 2 send em a fax:eek:, haven't they heard of email?

a) Does anyone know if they are gonna sock me with sum "Downgrading charges"?
b) Besides fax is their no other way i can cancel my line?
c) How long into the month do i have to provide them with notice?

Thanx

U guys sticking with ADSL, be strong and wait for the SNO!

photonman can u answer my questions plz?

PS. i will always remain a loyal forumite

A. Probably

B. Probably not

C. Month? Good luck trying.

In all seriousness, expect the worse.

You just have to give them notice before your next telkom bill is issued.

Too many people are treating these price changes and new capping model like the end of the world. People should have a little faith and be prepared to see what happens -life isn't fair afterall.

Thanx 4 the response. Im not complaining, i've found an alternative arrangement, which is uncapped so im happy. :)

Have faith in Telkom and ICASA, u crazy? The only sure thing is ur gonna get screwed!

a) No, you won't get charged for cancelling
b) They do want you to fax the cancellation through, but you might try cancelling at a Telkom customer service office if thats easier for you.
c) As far as I know it needs to be cancelled before the next Telkom account run. (As stated by Kryon_MC above).

Remember, always get a reference number, as you know Telkom are going to stuff up.

Good luck!

erMaC could you please explain to me what is WISP mentioned in your message?

Thanx in advance

Maybe the WISP u are changing to is using ADSL for connectivity. :)
As we well know dedicated bandwidth is for the corporates.

AFAIK you can cancel at any time and you should be credited for any period that you have been billed but not utilised. At least that is what they did on my account when I cancelled my Surfmore 30.

But do make sure that you obtain a reference number as the chances are very good that you will have to follow up with a call to get the credit passed.

photonman, did you find it absolutely necessary to make such a pointless post?
He never answers any questions, he just sits here with silly posts like lol or ok, or the above. Don’t know maybe he's just after post count, don’t know why, but he never say something useful..

...and expect to get bills from them for the next four months or so still billing you for usage...

A) if u downgrade from a line speed u get charged , also they will charge for every month - like stated before..

B) If u want to cancel the ADSL line, u fax the followin number 031 363-2622
If they want to follow up to check if the cancellation form has been received they can call Sudashini on
Tel : 031 363-3788

C) it should normally be a month or depends or the contract agreements...- they all give different stories

IS THAT OK WITH YOU "SH1"

Apparently the method you use to cancel is determined by when you applied. When cancelling my Telkom ISP account I ran into this prob. If you applied recently (think within the last 3 months or so) you can actually do it by phone. In other words if you applied using the "new and improved" method, you can get it cancelled easier. If you applied the "old" way (via fax or manuel application form) you have to cancel it the same way. Apparently the clients can't be merged between the old and new application process. Go figure... Just make sure that they received your fax, and as was said, get a reference number. Then start phoning on a daily basis to find out if it's been cancelled yet. This step is VERY important. Good luck.

Yippee Dooo, you actually gave a useful post - unbelievable, yes that's ok with me, thx. Now if you have done that in the first place instead of your usual snotty comments this thread would have been finalised already.
Now go on and go post a couple of lol’s and ok’s to make up for this one.

Thanx for all the great responses, much appreciated. Don't u think its odd that this info isn't on Telkom's website. Maybe ISP's should stir that water and put instructions for cancelling ADSL along with their price increase notices.
