Cannot connect to anything except Telkom :P

Greetings!

I finally took the plunge and had my old isdn line converted to adsl. After waiting three weeks or so... on a self-install option. So yesterday the tech finally manged to get my connection working... but for some unknown reason I can only connect to a few Telkom sites!

I have done the verification, and everything appears to be set up correctly. Then again, I am a total newbie when it comes to adsl, so who knows!

The sites I can connect to are: telkom.co.za | do.co.za | games.saix.net

Cannot connect to any other local or international site. I'm using a Billion 7300RA on Afrihost pre-paid. I'm using fixed ip's for my home network, running Windows 7.

Obviously, I probably missed something obvious, so any help would be appreciated!

Sounds like there might still be an issue. Have you called Telkom and confirmed that your line is verified?

Also make sure you didn't buy local only account from afrihost

Run the line verification again, if it works then wait 30 mins and you should be able to view the internet. If it tells you, the line has already been verfied give our friends on 0800375375 a call and let me know that there is a problem.

Make sure you have saved the settings on the router & give it a restart (turn off then on again), wait a few min, then try again.

If you are then still only able to reach the telkom sites, try verify it again. Make sure it comes back with a green tick, then give it 10-20min.

If still no joy, try calling the following numbers:
0800 202 538
0800 203 125
last resort: 0800 375 375

Tell them there is a problem with the verification server & ask them to lift the "flag".

HOW do you get "FIXED IP's" from TELKOM for a HOME network

Also check to ensure that your username and password on the router has been changed from the "guest" account from Telkom to your actual ISP account. If you have a DoBroadband package, you will have a username like "[email protected]"

u don't get them from telkom silly they just static address "10.0.0.etc"
i.e. private address's not static public address's "41.etc"

Why not -- we get everything else from Telkom ( comedy grief tears joy -- )
&
PUBLIC DYNAMIC IP addresses ( from AFRINIC )

they just static address "10.0.0.etc"
i.e. private address's not [-]static public address's "41.etc"[/-]

[dynamic public addresses "41.x.x.x"]
