Cannot connect to Telkom ADSL Wi-fi modem

Im not a expert, but have the same router and had the same problem a while ago. After looking for some answers on various forums, I finally got to the following solution that sorted out my problem.

Apparently sometimes when there are other WIFI signals in the area that uses the same or very close channel that you wireless card uses, you will get this error.
Do a scan of your area and check whether you pickup any other AP's. Then change your wifi channel on your router to a channel that is furthest away of any other channle your router is picking up.

I hope this makes sens as I dont know all the correct terminology for all this.

Hope it helps.

Yes, you will have interference from other wireless access points that are broadcasting on the same channel as yours, but most likely your other PCs will be affected by this as well...

Thanks to all the suggestions received so far. If it is the router, then why does the same LAN point that does not work on my PC work on any other PC that I plug it in? I have reset and re-configured the router numerous times now, without having any effect. And also the suggestions of wireless signal interferences also does not make any sense. I have been using this router for more than a year now. I do not make use of a wireless connection to the router. I only used my sons USB wireless adapter to try and problem solve. The Wi-Fi router is about 30cm away from the PC, so it cannot be a problem with signal strength. Surely there must be some kind of logical explanation to my problem. I just cannot go out and buy a new PC because I have a network connection error, which I cannot duplicate on any other PC I have tried. What If I go out and get a new ADSL Wi-Fi router/modem, and my PC gives the same error? I need to get to the bottom of this in a logical way, so please, all the techies out there, professional advice is desperately needed!

Well so the router is working.
You have reformatted and re installed your OS.
You tried a different network card.

Have you tried setting your IP manually? incl Gateway and DNS?

Yes, I have tried that as well. The exclamation mark goes away, but I still can not access the router. When I ping 10.0.0.2 I just do not get any reply.

To help me problem solve, here is the problem and actions taken up till now step-by-step:

1. Browsing internet.
2. Could not open next page.
3. Noticed yellow exclamation mark on network icon.
4. Rebooted PC. Same problem.
5. Do a full system scan for virii and spyware. None found.
6. Install new NIC. Same problem.
7. Do a system restore to prior having this problem. Same error.
8. Install Siemens 108 USB Wi-Fi adapter "borrowed" from sons working PC. Same problem
9. Reset modem/router. Same problem.
10. Try new network cable. Same problem.
11. Plug "faulty" LAN cable into laptop. Connects without any problem
12. Do a new clean install of Win XP. Same problem.
13. Assign static IP address etc. No yellow exclamation but no connection.
14. Curse and threaten PC. Same problem.
15. Install latest VIA Hyperion 4-in-1 chipset drivers. Same problem.
16. Update the NIC drivers. Same problem.
17. IPCONFIG /release, IPCONFIG /renew etc. Same problem.
18. Plug LAN cable in different ports on router. Same problem.

Any more suggestions to try out? Keep in mind that both my sons can still aconect to the internet via Wi-Fi using this router/modem.

How did you configure you IP?

IP Address: 10.0.0.4
Subnet: 255.0.0.0
Gateway: 10.0.0.2
Primary DNS: 10.0.0.2

?? That's if your router ip is 10.0.0.2

Before you do it, go to cmd and enter ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /flushdns

Yes, that is the way I configured it, but I did not do the "ipconfig /release" and then "ipconfig /flushdns" action. I will try that when I get home today after work.

Yeh just give it a go and try it on both network cards, disable one when you use the other

This is indeed bizzare... I would update XP before troubleshooting too much further...

Get autopatcher XP and burn it to CD:
http://www.autopatcher.com/downloads/
No more having to download all updates from the web after installing XP afresh. You can also get the latest patches from their site... and it's free. It does absolutely everything including SP2, IE7, Media Player, .Net 3, etc. and you can decide what you want/dont want to patch.

It is indeed. I don't think it will solve his problem though.. As his pc did work before with the same version of Windows

Same problem

I am having exactly the same problem as Geezer on my Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop. 2 other computers running fine off the Marconi wifi but not mine. I've also tried all the steps mentioned above, flushing dns, setting IP manually etc. Best I can get is connected with no "limited connectivity" icon but unable to ping router or browse....

Also, a mate of mine is having the SAME problem, so this is not a bizarre isolated incident... I'll post if I work anything out.
