Lost and Confused...
Hi guys

I need urgent help please. I am trying to join a server to a domain, but it says that it cannot contact the DC. I can ping the DC from the server but by IP only, if I try the name, no luck.

Any ideas?

The dcdiag.txt file looks like this:

The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain wakegem.local:

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.domain.local

Common causes of this error include the following:

- The DNS SRV records required to locate a domain controller for the domain are not registered in DNS. These records are registered with a DNS server automatically when a domain controller is added to a domain. They are updated by the domain controller at set intervals. This computer is configured to use DNS servers with following IP addresses:

192.168.110.5

- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone:

domain.local
local
. (the root zone)

Have you tried pinging the DC with it's FQDN, and try to join the domain using it's FQDN.

I think its a DNS issue because it's not pinging by computer name, only by IP. Any ideas what to check?

Does it resolve the host name though. There is a difference between resolving the host name and not being able to ping the host as the host might have ICMP replies disabled. But if you can ping via host name from other machines then it would not be an ICMP issue.
