While browsing around today I found that you can load hacked firmware onto the Canon 300D which enables more features accessible via the menu. Apparently the 300D is a knock down version of the Canon 10D and by enabling these 'hidden' features you get some of the more advanced functionality of the 10D.

Has anyone replaced their firmware on the 300D with these hacks

Looking for an excuse to get the 400D? :D

Good luck! :)

Anyone else find that the 300D feels better than the 350D? I was using a colleagues 300D the other day and found the weight and size to be alot better.

Get the grip - that adds some extra heft and a few extra buttons too :)

I also prefer my cameras to have a bit more "meat" to them ... that's what makes the battery grips so nice to use ...

EDIT: @bwana: SNAP! :p

No, actually not - I like my 300D - as mentioned it has a good balanced feel to it... and I have the grip as well so the cost to upgrade will not be worthwhile - only thing I would like on the hacked firmware is the flash sync to 1/200. But I thing a Canon flash will be a better investment.

On this point - a friend of mine has the 350D and is complaining about quality of pics especially wrt the auto focusing - she maintains there is a problem with it - on looking around on various forums, other people have also been complaining re the focussing on the 350D.

Has anyone else had a problem in this area?

I vaguely remember reading something about the auto focus problems, but I can be wrong ... Just follow that link I posted to bwana for his firmware upgrade ... you might find something there for yourself

I used to have problems with the 400D's multi point and auto selection Auto Focusing so now I mostly keep it set to the centre of the frame and all is good.
