Canon 300D windows 8

So my friend lost his cd, and windows 8 detects the camera but u can't browse it like a memory-card.. What software does he need? cause all the software on canon websites is just updaters.....:(

Just buy an external card reader.

Well what else does he want to do besides access his photo's.
 
Change a setting on the camera. Can't remember what it was. Transfer protocol or something, from whatever it is now to the other.

Sorry, can't be of more help - but it does work. You'll see the setting if you look on the camera.

Edit: The communication setting needs to be put on PTP.

I picked up a cheap USB2 CF card reader, much easier than connecting via USB, and if it's anything like my 350D, it will be noticeably quicker for copying photos too.

Not to mention the card reader will save loads on battery charges, and you're not easily finding 300D batteries these days.
I don't have to charge my 500D's batteries half as often as I used to since I got a card reader over using the cable to get files off.
