Canon : Copy to CF ?

Can you guys copy *to* the card?

I'm supposed to copy the firmware file onto the card, but I can't get it there. Copying from Explorer says I have no permission ... I don't have a card reader ... I've lost my CD so don't have EOS Utility ... and you can't download it

Wondering if there is a permission issue on my own machine - or if it should work?

You can't write to the camera, as far as I know. What you can do is download all the software for your camera from Canon's website, so you can get the EOS utility.

You need to have the software already on your machine to use the updaters. There are ways around it - or at least there used to be.

Why not try to go to a Canon stockist, explain the situation and get another copy of the CD or email Canon requesting same?

Probably be quicker to use google.

Or buy a card reader.

Google kinda said what you did - but they have a way to get passed the install on eos. It involves regedit though - rather not

I think I have a card reader here but don't think it does Cf. But since they cheap that may actually be the easiest

I have a MicroSD card that I put into a MicroSD Converter/adapter. So if I need to copy files to/from I just take it out and put it into my phone and copy to/frm the pc.

Not if you have a good pair of scissors. You may lose some of the card's capacity in the process, though ...

That's not taking me to a download link for some reason - but if it's a 90MB file, I downloaded yesterday - but when you click after done, it still requires the files installed previously. I think it's the update only

That should take you to "EOS Digital Solution Disk Software 29.0A for Windows (For users who cannot use the bundled CD)" which includes:

• Digital Photo Professional 3.14.0
• EOS Utility 2.14.0
• EOS Sample Music
• Picture Style Editor 1.14.0
• Photostitch 3.1.23
• ImageBrowser EX (The latest version will be installed via the Internet.)

You're probably looking at "EOS Utility 2.14.1 Updater for Windows" which is 90.4 MB. I can't tell you the size of the one I mentioned as you need to enter your camera's serial number to get the download link, I don't have mine at hand.

Fair enough. I thought the op mentioned having a non-cf card reader.
