+1. I still use mine for macro because of the weight. Anything above ISO 400 is not pretty, but you can get usable results. Here, in Trier Cathedral with a Sigma 18-125 @ ISO 800:

My missus now uses it most of the time. Here, in India with Tamron 18-200 @ ISO 200:

To the OP, providing the camera is in good condition, I'd say go for it! Just be aware that this camera does not have the shaking sensor cleaning, so you will have to manually clean the sensor if you change lenses often.

That second one is great! I hope the camera is in good condition.

what about "shutter life"? I heard all dslr have a limited lifespan and that buying a used camera can have a shorter lifespan

Consumer DSLRs tend to be rated for 50,000 actuations. This link suggests they're good for around 60,000.

That said, I've heard of cameras that have gone well past that. I have a friend who is a teacher and does all the school photography (sports days, concerts, prize giving, etc) as well as live music at night. 100,000 a year is not unusual. Her 350D (bought new when they were hot) is still working.

Camera manufacturers tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to shutter life claims. One, if not both, of my 400D's has done in excess of 100k.
