Canon EOS 40D

The 40D was an absolute dream to work with and its picture quality is superb. We would even go as far as recommending that serious amateurs, who have the extra cash to spend, invest in this model.

There are also numerous little feature add-ons that make this camera the best in its class. My favourite of these is the sRAW (Small RAW) file format that you can select if you want to save your photos as smaller RAW files.

Why would you want to do that?

This article is a lovely example of why I stopped buying SACM. It's a shame really, I've been a loyal reader since back when it was called "SA Computer Buyer" magazine. This article is not a review. It says there are so many extra features, but mentions only one of them.

In the last few years their reviews have become less and less in-depth and informative, and have become more a rehash of the sales pamphlet.

Would love to check all the features the 40D has except the brand new one I purchased online came faulty out the box - doesn't say much for a 15k camera.
According to Canon it has faulty sensors, as all pictures are green with lines running through them - and there is no quick fix - camera now has to be returened to Canon and a replacement ordered - I am just considering a refund and going for another brand now!

Hectic - where did you purchase it from? The retailer should have exchanged it on the spot.

Is it your first dSLR? If you havent invested much in the way of lenses then you should consider another brand if you're not happy with the way Canon are treating you.

Its not an issue of the support, as Canon have looked at the camera and have said it looks like a factory fault and the retailer said they will organise a replacement.
My concern is that the 40D is not a cheap camera, it is one of Canons more expensive SLR's and I would expect better quality control.
I know things can break, it happens, but this was brand new faulty out a sealed box, and I would have just expected better quality from Canon.
I now have to decide if I want a replacement or another brand - but will probably just get another one, but its such a downer when you get a brand new toy and it doesnt work.:(

@furnic, factory mistakes happen in every brand. You just got unlucky. Just have them replace it, it's a great camera.
