Can't access the network

i woke up this morning having no signal on my phone. I called Mtn However they said that from their side the number was active on the network. My phone will not allow me to manually access the Mtn Network. what to do? Any suggestions?
 
I have placed the sim card in another phone. I have repeatedly switched the phone off removed the sim card replaced it in the phone again and switched the phone back on. I have called Mtn now 3 days in a row, they say that the number is active on the network. I have requested that they refresh the sim. I have driven around to establish if the tower in my area is down. I have been unsuccessful in all instances. I was considering requesting a sim swap. Not sure if it will sort my situation out. I have no access to the network and it is starting to frustrate me.
 
My question is is it possible that a SIM card be damaged?

Because I have been having problems with my phone and when I change phones, the same problem persists.

I noticed that it has some scratches on probably due to the many falls the phone has taken.

Anyways, maybe best to go to a walk-in store and ask the people there.

Go to network settings and try to manually browse for network activity....
Check if your phone can identify voda cellc or mtn.
 
I have tried to manually select the network. The phone searches for the available networks. Displays the 3 networks and when i select the Mtn option i get an error message "no network coverage"
 
well troubleshoot, if another MTN simcard in that phone gives the same hassles then its the phone, if it doesnt its the sim.
 
i also tried a prepaid Mtn sim and its working fine in the phone. Do you think a sim swap might be a solution?
