Can't burn DVDs

For those that don't have local, here is the dialogue he seems to be getting

ZA.Schmidt, Are you running Vista or windows 7 Beta ?
 
Looks like he is using the built in burning capabilities in the OS.. probably Vista or Win 7.

Get a real burning program! :p
 
I first tried using the XP burning feature, and then Nero, which seemed to work but when I put the disc in it doesn't even show up.

OK, so first step, you're using XP? Then you tried Nero and the disc didn't show up:-

1. Is your DVD drive connected correctly, with the correct cable?
2. What make/model is your burner?
3. Have you tried disabling the XP burning feature?
4. What version of Nero do you have installed?
5. Have you tried uninstalling Nero with the "Clean Tool" supplied on their website? Then reinstall ONLY the Nero Burning Rom program (excluding all the bundled cr@p)

We need a bit more info to help you out... comments like "Nah, just tried that and still nothing" doesn't help us to help you... ;)
 
1. Yep; it plays everything else fine.
2. No idea. 'DVD Multi Recorder' is all it says.
3. How do I do that and what would be the point?
4. Nero Start Smart?
5. Nope. And I don't have the disc so I can't either.

The XP burning tool has always worked fine before...
 
If you like, I can use remote desktop and try to see what's going on. Just enable remote desktop and give me your ip address...:D

Um, maybe try copy everything you want to burn to a new folder, and then trying from scratch with that.

Oh, is it a message you get everytime you try to burn a dvd, or was it just that one time?
