I bought a new phone but it requires a nano sim.

So I went to MTN yesterday and bought a new sim.

I've been trying to follow the steps on the Afrihost website:
  1. SMS 'Swap' to 44770 from your old SIM.
  2. You will receive a One Time Pin (OTP) via SMS which is valid for 15 minutes. Please save or write it down.
  3. Insert the new SIM Card into your device.
  4. You will be assigned a temporary number and you will receive a message welcoming you to the MTN Network.
  5. From your NEW SIM Card SMS the word 'Swap' and your 'Old Number*OTP#' to 44770.
For example, if your personal number is 0831234567 and the OTP you received is 1234, then SMS the following to 44770: Swap 0831234567 *1234#
  6. Switch off your phone. After a few minutes you can power on your device. Your device will now be ready to use with your new SIM Card.

But step 1 doesn't work. I never get a reply from 44770.

I contacted Afrihost support via whatsapp but it's the most infuriating thing ever. It's like they can't read.

How do I swap my number to a new sim? Must I go to MTN to try and get get this sorted?

Do you have MTN secure activated? I have it activated and set up so my fathers number gets the OTP

Thanks Nadir, it doesn't look like I have MTN secure activated. Will see if I can set it to my own number maybe.

I tried out the secure activated thing. Added my email address now. I got the email, clicked the verification link and it said: You would be receiving an SMS for final confirmation.

And I'm not getting that sms.

Funnily enough I get daily MTN spam but when I actually want to get sms's from them I get nothing.

Also nobody answers at Afrihost Live chat. And the person on whatsapp stopped responding to me after I asked her if she's reading my comments. I should have stayed cool.

It's just so frustrating.

Okay I phoned Afrihost now and the lady said Afrihost can't help me I will have to contact MTN. So will go to an MTN store just now and hope for the best.

Otherwise maybe someone can cut my existing sim.

MTN sorted it out. Thank goodness.

I am sorry that you struggled here. I am glad that you managed to come right.
