Hi All,

I have this weird problem and its driving me insane. I recently bought a new dsl modem (Planet Tech - ADN-4000 model).

I added all my settings using PPPoE Connection, restarted the modem and bam, nothing. The data light stays red and the link light is green. I doubled checked my username with Telkom, reset my password and still nothing. I then changed the connection to bridge and it works fine. (so it cant be my username - I think).

I used my old SMC router, same connection settings and its also fine.

Here's the funny part, I changed my account to the telkom guest account and the red light goes green and I am able to browse Telkom's site (now I am stuck).

I reckon the modem is faulty, but i would like some verification on this or am I just missing some setting.

Regards & thanks,
Barend

Howzit, have you set your router to use 8/35 to sync? Also (dumb question) but did you save all settings before restarting the router? Let us know!

Hi Barend

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I bought a Planet ADN-4000 router yesterday and battlied last night to get it configured for Telkom's ADSL service. I will however try the Bridge mode later today.

Regards
Ray

Hi Ray,

I never got it working. I ended up buying a netgear router instead and had no hassles with it. I think it must be the router. The router should work with a bridge connection, but i see when playing online games, the latency is higher through the Planet ADN-4000 router as it is with the netgear one. Strange....

Hope you come right.

Hi Barend

Apologies for taking so long to reply. I'm new to this site and its Forums and kinda thought I'd get some form of notification if someone replied, but I didn't.

I've got exactly the same problem as you do. The Telkom guest account works fine, but not if I use my own username and password. I've checked and rechecked these details and they are correct. I've even re-entered them on my old Marconi modem, and that works fine.

I've also now given up and will go and get another Netgear from Telkom. My previous Netgear, which worked fine, was damaged by lightning.

I'll try to get a refund from the place I bought the Planet from. Wonder if that will happen...

Thanks again.

Regards
Ray

Hi Ray,

Good luck, i tried to speak Planet and the agencies selling it; they kept saying that the problem was not with the router. So i gave up on that. I am now just using the router as a hub. It was allot cheaper than a netgear, but I suppose cheap is not always the best way.

PS. maybe have a chat with Telkom and ask them if they know of planet routers and if they recommend it or have problems with it. With it being an import router which you don't really see being sold in retail shops, it could just be that it doesn't like some setting that South Africa ISP's have, but i 'm not sure.

Ps2. u should get a notification when someone reply's, - you just having bad luck (validate your profile ...).

Cheers,
Barend

You have to subscribe to the thread. It's not available from the Quick Reply window though, click on Go Advanced or Reply to Thread button, compose your message, scroll down a bit and tick the Subscription option and select the type of notification you would like.

Guys, it could be that the router cannot handle the longer normal username. Think I've seen this before with D-Link as well.

Try updating the firmware http://www.planet.com.tw/en/support/download2.php?id=18446&file_type=65&prod_model=ADN-4000 Verify that you have the correct model before flashing anything.

Thanks. I happened to stumble on that possibility on Saturday and tried loading a newer version of firmware which happens to be related to the username and password lengths. It did load on the router but it doesn't solve the problem. Mine is however a slightly different version of router and I have contacted Planet support in this regard.

Thanks
Ray
