I was working in the US for the last year, and while there, I bought the LG Rumor Sprint phone. Back in SA, the phone doesn't work. It doesn't seem to use sim cards either. Is there any way I can get it to work in South Africa ? I really like my phone !

Is it a Verizon phone?

Also, most phones in the US are "Locked" The service provider "locks" the phone from use with any other service provider.

It could be that it works without a SIM and with the wireless network system that they use in the US too or that it is locked.

To unlock it, you can phone the US service provider and ask them to unlock it cos you are in SA. Otherwise, sorry bud...

Thanks, I'll try to contact them. But does South African service providers support cdma phones ?

I doubt it... Thats the thing. The US have the wireless system, and SA only use SIM's

I'm not sure whether anybody has tried this but you might be able to get your phone to work on the Neotel network provided that the phone supports CDMA 800 (most US phones do) and you have an existing telephone contract such as the R99-00 per month NeoConnect Lite 99 option (R599 upfront payment for phone).

You would then need to reprogram the current serial and phone numbers of the Sprint phone with those of the Neotel phone. See these links for more details or look for more results on CDMA phone cloning on Google. Let us know if you have any success - you should be able to find all the necessary tools below.
