I used to use my pcmcia 3G card in my laptop. Then I started using a 3G router, so I uninstalled the software. Now I'm back trying to use the pcmcia card, but I can't install the software. It starts installing and then I get a message:

"Error 1714. The older version of Vodafone Mobile Connect cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group."

I've already deleted all entries in the registry I could find about Vodafone and there's no option under "Add and Remove Programs" to uninstall it. Also no Vodafone folder in Program Files.

I downloaded both the install packages from the Vodacom site. VMC_7.03.0005.0 & 9.1.2.5766. Same problem on both.

Any ideas???

You're f@cked. I once had a customer who couldnt remove VMC7.x and that "half installation" caused VMC9.x to not install. He had to have his laptop replaced becoz i the PC Technician i sent him to couldnt solve it.

Backup all your data, do a format, and re-install windows. That's gonna save you alot of time

I too have to agree with Iam3G, the fact that the installation could have placed some of the DLL files in the windows folder somewhere (mostly under system32), there is no way of determining what files could belong to the software package.

If by any chance you still have the previous installation version, try to install that one again, it might (if you are EXTREMELY lucky) try do repair most of the program, just enough to be able to uninstall it.

If that doesn't work, yes backup, wipe and reinstall, it will save you hours of hassle.

Why not go to Add/Remove programs, and do a repair installation from there? It doesnt neccesarily need the CD

It is not listed in Add/Remove Programs.

@Retro, assuming that you are logged in using a Windoze account with administrative privileges, check for any VMC files & folders under the user profile folders, e.g. under appdata etc.

Most of the times places where programs like to dump / store files are:

-Windows/system32 (you can forget about identifying these)

-documents an settings/<profile>/application data/<program>

-documents an settings/<profile>/local settings/application data/<program>
(note that "local settings" folder is hidden)

-program files (duh)
-My documents (only usually user settings and other config files, N/A in this case i think)

Oh, sorry about that. Didnt notice that oart of his post at first glance.

And to save him alot of time, a format and a fresh copy of Windows will do the trick!
