Had this problem a while back and eventually I got hold of someone at Cell C who gave me some or other USSD code to reset the SMS service, anyone know what it was?

Almost 20 minutes wasted explaining to two separate operators that I can make calls, receive calls, receive SMS's but not SEND SMS's. I dont think any of it sank in and basically all I got was go take the battery out of the phone and check the message centre number! It really is luck of the draw when you speak to these guys and it looks like Cell C dont keep any customer history, as mentioned I have had this problem in the past and a guy gave me a USSD code to use and it worked. Now we just get no-where! If Cell C kept a customer history this would have been sorted within 2 minutes.

My daughter had endless grief with her CellC till I did a SIM swop - solved the problem. I must say that I've always noticed CellC to go for a ball with their SMS infrastructure.

The message centre number is right. Its a phone that I use for my bike and its a real PITA to have to go through this everytime I want to send an SMS!

What kind of phone,I had the exact same problem with 2 phones on their network ie. Samsung G810 and I900 omnia. When I put another sim of mtn or voda it works 100 %.

Sadly it was never resolved, message numbers and firmware could not solve it. I do however , presume it was a compatibility issue between the two.

Good luck.

If you see an option to use CS or PS service for SMS, select CS and restart phone.

SMS is more reliable than GPRS so downloading whattsapp was not going to solve the problem. I've been in the WASP industry for more than 5yrs (since 2006) and got lots of experience with testing CellC and SMS. When the network decides a SIM goes bad the only way to resolve it is with a SIM swop.

Using an old E63, works fine with the other 2 networks.

Hi unwind

What mobile device do you ?
Have you tested that sim in another phone to see if it works.
If still don't work please PM me will assist.

Got fiddling with the phone and there was a setting 'Preferred connection' (on the Nokia E63) , I changed from GSM/UMTS to Packet Data and now it seems to work?

It is exactly what I wrote, but in reverse. :)
@Armando: It seems that phone is not registering for some reason to CS (carrier select) - old type GSM voice type of connection.
