Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can answer this question,

I have a Huawei Telkom ADSL Router, which came with the Telkom package. I've since gone and bought a TP Link N600 triple antenna router for better WiFi coverage.

When I enter my Telkom details into the TPLink, it just sits endlessly "Connecting", I've side by side compared settings between both routers but the details still only seem to work in the Huawei.

Are my Telkom details locked to a router?

I certainly hope not...:wtf:

Check that you have mtu = 1492. TP-link defaults to 1480 if country set to usa or default IIRC. And of course 8 / 35 as vpi / vci. And multiplexing - LLC based.

Hey Grouter,

Thanks for the response.

I checked MTU, It is 1492, 8/35 and LLC already all set in the TPLink :/

I checked all this when I did side by side comparison of the routers interfaces. I checked now again to make sure and all looks as you say.

I can attach a screenshot?

Tick "Use IP address specified by ISP" perhaps? Otherwise looks good to me.

Might sound like a stupid question. Have you tried using the Telkom guest login?

Think he means tick it on the TP Link

Yip, I did, but it wanted me to enter an IP given to me from the ISP, which as far as I can see in the Huawei, isn't preset/defined which makes me believe it automatically gets the IP from Telkom

That looks like an axxess username. Or was it just for the screenshot ?

It was just as an example, Having to use my Axxess account since Telkom isn't working.

Hmmm, no I haven't, What are the details for it?

guest@telkomadsl / guest

Just a thought, are you copy / pasting the telkom username? And axxess works?

I've tried manually typing and copy/pasting. Axxess works yip. So does my Vox account.

Hmmm, vexing, very vexing! Sounds like the problem I've just had with a client.

Just read your thread @Grouter, exactly the same problem on my side.

The Guest account connected fine. This Telkom account is a 50Gb softcap/@telkomsa.net account.

What the hell??

The router is throwing the below:

43 2016-08-11 12:08:38 PPP Error ppp0 LCP down
44 2016-08-11 12:08:38 PPP Error ppp0 Failed to authenticate ourselves to peer
45 2016-08-11 12:08:38 PPP Information ppp0 rcvd [PAP AuthNak id=0x1 "Login incorrect"]

How can it be incorrect logins when I'm using the exact same logins on the Huawei...

Yeah, you feel like an idiot because, well in my case at least, I've done this a thousand plus times. You check for typos, you pull your hair out, nothing helps. I went back 5 days later, did the same username and password entry as I'd done before and BAM! it works. Go figure.

Just a wild card - time is incorrect. Should that matter?

Edit: I doubt it.:o

Does it still work on the Huawei ? Maybe your session never got terminated when you switched, but I doubt it.

Unlikely. Telkom Capped accounts can have multiple logins.

Could be some kind of line protection at play, especially if it's an Uncapped account where it think that there is a second concurrent connection being opened?

After making sure that the configuration is in fact correct, maybe leave the old Router disconnected for a good 15 minutes before plugging in the new one.
