Cape Town's Ghost Squad

not denying the facts. But its your responsibility to report those taxis drivers to the authorities and their taxi association.

Easy, report : SELECT * FROM vehicles WHERE type = taxi

Keep fighting the good fight :D
One of these days man... one of these days... I'll buy a banged up car, reinforce the carp out of it, and just drive into all these nutters breaking the law

Oops, I drove into your car and its buggered? I'm so sorry about that, luckily my car isnt damaged, and its not insured anyway. Really sucks that you ran the robot at 60km/h, 5 seconds after it went red.

I drop my speed on purpose if there is a slow car next to me and a taxi behind me. Especially if there is abig hill coming up, they drop like flies and only get their speed back like 5km after that.

Met a ghost squad cop at the local petrol station. He had his badge behind the lapel of his jacket. I guessed it was a cop since he had some towing equipment and wheel clamps on the back seat, and also a sticker for the Council bldg parking garage. Had a chat and he told me he keeps an eye on what motorists are up to. Was a white Toyota Corolla with CCT plates. He also had a gun in a holster under his jacket and didn't mind if I saw it. He asked me why I was barefoot as he reckoned it made for dangerous driving.

WTF are CCT plates ?

why the F where you barefoot ?

Those are my pics in the article :D

I went for a short drive with them to get some pics for the paper. Pulled over 3 or 4 cars in a pretty short amount of time. It takes longer for them to do the "admin", (write tickets, issue summons, etc) than it does to find another flagged vehicle.
The cars have printers on the back seat so they can print a copy of your warrant on the spot and arrest you there and then if need be.

The types of cars that have this system in are supposed to be a secret (obviously...) which is why we didn't publish the type of vehicles that have these cameras in them but certain facebook pages have published images of the vehicles with their number-plates showing...

Even if you knew the type of car to look out for, by the time you spot them, the cameras would have already spotted you and alerted the officers anyway... ;)

I think it is some up-country dorpie like Willomore or something. A lot of Cape Town cop cars have CCT registration plates. Why should I wear shoes if I don't want to?

So the plates are CA plates ?

I have never seen plates with CCT on them

There are some motor-cycle cops with CCT plates. Next time I see him, I will ask him to stop and pose. This guy's white Toyota had CCT plates alright, this was one of the reasons I looked at it. Normally, you would just give a white Toyota half a glance

All City of Cape Town cars have CCT plates. All traffic and metro police cars as well.

It's the way you used to spot an unmarked vehicle - but now they're trying to get clever and blend in by using CA plates.
