So it sounds like whoever had it removed did so before grant could even read it.

Perhaps as an attempt to spare him the embarrassment.

Was it you who had it memory-holed, Brian_G?

Be honest.....
so you now think i have benefactor out there who is looking to spare me embarrassment ?
really ?

you need a bigger tinfoil hat.

@Grant and @Brian_G

If you had bothered to read a bit about a topic before flapping your gums, you would know that libertarianism is an applied philosophy.

As such it is for the every day man and woman, in everyday life, not for stuffy, high-falutent jargon-laden Ivy-league university professors with life tenure, who never have to be right about much.

The whole idea is to apply the ideas and theories since they have been tried and have worked whenever they were tried.

It's in fact how Western civilization came to be...... via the development of these ideas beginning in the 16th and 17th centuries with John Locke, and Adam Smith and so on.
and here we go again . . . .

No, not clear at all.

They were a colony, not a part of England. A continent away.
Irrelevant.

They did not have the same rights as English citizens, which is one of the reasons they revolted. Yes - a revolt, not a secession.
They revolted over taxes and political abuse... the stated rationale is right there in the Declaration of Independence.

'taxation without representation'

That's why it's called the American Revolution. Not the American secession.
If you look up the definition of secession, that's what it was/is.

By the way, do you really call a secession that requires a war (and international support), successful?
No secessionist starts a war.

They're too busy looking forward to freeing up their abused resources, time and effort.

No secessionist ever starts a war with the motherland.

It' purely self-defense, in every case of a physical conflict.

Secessionist have nothing to gain from starting a war. They just want a government of, by and for them, the people.

It's obvious you just don't like being pinned down by discourse that is ethical and consistent, and logically sound.

So. What was the end thought best idea in the other thread for a poll? Can't recall

"discourse that is ethical and consistent, and logically sound" - in your opinion.

and no, i have no aversion to attempts to "pin me down"

How could a group best discourage well meant but endless posted waffling about a not very much related subject? As humans we have failed to find an answer, so your turn my imaginary partial-friend (of sorts)... but kindly be brief.

ChatGPT:

A simple, polite formula works best:

“Thanks for your enthusiasm — let’s keep this thread focused on X. If you’d like to discuss Y, please start a new topic.”

Repeat consistently. Enforce it calmly. Waffle dries up when there’s no audience for it.

Possible poll question:

Would an independence movement outside the Cape help non-Capeans who have also never once gotten a national govt that represents them?

Like
But maybe simpler wording

Would those elsewhere in SA also like to have an independence movement?

Suggested part-of-answers options:
* I am in the Cape, but encourage that
* I am pro existing government

Will leave fine tuning / alt. choice to others involved.

to be clear - is the poll directed at a national "audience
or local (as in current w/c residents) ?

The most obvious flaw in this is the entitlement mentality.

You claim it's not related but continually demonstrate you have no personal responsibility to choose the best theory to put your confidence in. You show constantly you have no part to play in analysis. You're happy to be a passenger and let other power-players supply you with conclusions.

When offered an article written for the layman, which goes into more details, you regularly turn your nose up.

It's almost as though you think we all live in a meritocracy, where the best we have is based on the freedom of individuals to excel.
