Forgot about registering the card for online purchases - did it a few minutes ago.
Though the site and Chrome were not gelling for me.
Went with IE *spit* and it waved on through.

Update from my side: Not had my card declined once, ABSA and Nedbanks machines, one FNB iirc.
Online purchasing has gone off without a hitch.

So, very happy.

Thanks to Ockie and co for logging all the faults and sorting the rest of us out  :p

still pissed that the damn consultant never activated my card to be used online
i havent had a chance to go in again

such a useless idiot

Card got declined at Spar yesterday :(

The manager came and said that you can't draw money with the chip cards. I said that's impossible as I have been drawing money with the chip card at Pick n Pay.

Sad that all these problems are cropping up

Got one a few days ago, and activated it for online banking-buying, thanks to you guys! its a saviour for a student who cant get a cc but wants to buy online now and then.

It works perfectly online. I registered mine on Paypal and used it to buy a few things online. That is perfect for my needs!

I stand under correction here but I don't think that Spar offers a withdrawal service from their tills. Only places I know of that do are PnP, Checkers/Shoprite and PepStore to name a few.

You are correct. PnP, Shoprite, Checkers, and Boxer stores. Not Spar.

I had my card declined again at the same bloody Caltex down the road from me. I was fuming and so cross I thought I was gonna bust a capillary in my eye right there and then. Start pointing my finger at the poor guys and told him that it is fcking bull sh*t and I am going to write Caltex stinky mail (which I did) telling them this particular franchise of their is up to k@k! I do believe I saw some spittle flying while I was performing also! lol. Shame...poor guy. Will just be going to the Shell at Eastgate to fill up. FCK THEM! tsk bietses!

You sound like a fun customer.

Just had enough of their crap now. If they cant be bothered to get their bank to update their machines then they can fck off.

The problem is not with the Caltex garages but with the bank. From what I understand from a Caltex garage owner is that the debit/credit card facilities they use does not belong to a particular bank (ie the back office unit that communicates with the banks). It is from a third party company with which you can link several different credit/debit card units from different banks. Absa need update their software for their unit and the owner has requested this from Absa several times already.

Well...that is their problem. Change banks then :-)

All I know is I wont be going there no more. Pity...I really love their Garage Pies. Their Cheese Burger pies are fantastic! :-(

I've always drawn from the Spar. The manager told me that if I am able to draw from Pick n Pay, I should be able to draw from them. He is investigating on my behalf :)

I have to say that I have tried withdrawing from several different Spars before and have been told every time that they don't offer this service. Funnily enough though, if you withdraw from Pepstores then they insist you buy something, even if it's a carrier bag. It's still works out cheaper than withdrawing from an ATM though.

Have had my card for about a month and never had any problems at any outlet.

I got my shiny new Capitec MasterCard yesterday, but it won't link to PayPal, I've also tried making another online payment and it was refused. Should I have it activated for online use or something? I wasn't sent that 10-number code for SecureCode registration.

yes!!!
same thing happened to me. those consultants should ask if you want it to be activated, but they dont, so now you have to make another trip to the bank.....
