Capped ADSL bundled prices compared

Isn't Telscum just pathetic. They should be setting the benchmark not lagging behind.
Afrihost you go guys.

I am sure that this is the reason telkom doubled the cap. This makes them comparable to other offerings. At the moment the doubled cap is a temporary concession but undoubtedly it will become permanent.

Gian and his team has changed the face of the ISP industry. Well Done guys.

Now, if you can only give static IP's on this capped accounts will make a decent christmas special for small business.

I have Afrihost, webafrica, and Telkom capped bandwidth accounts. Telkom comes out ahead for me from a gaming latency point of view. I have consistently jumped between accounts over the passed few months, and definitely have a better gameplay experience at any time of the day/night with Telkom. Surfing and downloading is fine using any of the three (with maybe WA being least consistent) which for most people puts Afrihost in the driving seat. Anyway, that is my experience.

And that is why Afrihost wins again :)
Best bundle on the market.... 4/10Mb with 50GB.... R450. Win all the way.

We really shouldn't even have to compare capped bundles. Uncapped should be the default for all adsl users at a bare minimum.

I fully agree!

I wonder why the 50GB package is not in the article?

Because I can finish that 50GB bundle in one day on my [10meg] line :D
Dunno hey. Maybe it's too small for most users.

Capped is nice for those that don't need to use loads of data. I've moved to capped for my home account, 50-100GB of unshaped goodness is more than enough, and it's way cheaper than spending R800 on a 10meg shaped uncapped account.

QoS of the two products are worlds apart. For some applications capped is vastly superior to uncapped.

ja with Axxess, moving to Afrihost capped. I get 50GB account on a 2meg line instead of my 1meg line uncapped for only R75 more a month. Only using about 40gigs a month so makes sense.

And then you try and play an MMO on an internationally hosted server :|

Afrihost 170 - 180ms vs. Telkom 210 - 230ms...

And I suppose everybody should be able to utilize their lines 100% 24/7/365 ? At an even lower than bare minimum ?

Because contention ratios is just some far out imaginary concept.

lol

Why do you say we should be setting the benchmark? We are about the only ISP that is not allowed to cross-subsidise our ISP products from other business interests the company or group may have. Afrihost revealed that they priced their products at lower than cost (relying on over-sell and prices to be reduced), but unfortunately that is something Telkom Internet is not permitted to do (by the competition commission etc.), otherwise competing ISPs complain about margin squeeze.

While we haven't quite gotten to Afrihosts capped bundles prices:
-We doubled the caps on all our products except the legacy 1GB package
-We gave free night surfer
-We introduced free video streaming (iTunes/Apple TV, Samsung Video Hub, DStv content)
-Gaming add-on (free for 30 days if activated this month) making all gaming traffic not count to your quota

All of that in the space of about 1 month.

Is that pathetic?

Plus, our 2Mbps uncapped bundle is cheaper than Afrihost's 2Mbps+75GB bundle (and Afrihost's 2Mbps uncapped bundle too).
