Capped versus uncapped ADSL

I wonder if the need for uncapped would exist if pirated downloads and torrents weren't so common?

/waits for flames

Ok i'll bite lets compare them apples.
The line rental is the same regardless of capped or uncapped account.

Now how much cap can you get for R200 , 10gig? Thats more expensive than a 384 uncapped account, so which one would you choose to not worry about running out?

The same applies at R 300 you get 20 gig but this is the price of 1 meg uncapped account.

This also applies at R500 at best you get 50 gig from afrihost but this is the price of a 4 meg uncapped account.

This must mean all those people who buy a bottomless coffee from m&b are crazy . Noone says you have to drink ten cups , just drink as much as you need.

I'm sure most of you faster 4-10mb line users will disagree, but I'm not entirely
opposed to the large cap concept. Then again, I'm a cheapskate who refuses
to pay anymore Telkom Tax then R152 for 384K.

Consider my scenario, I use 50GB's a month on my 384K Line, it's costing me
under R7 per GB. At least I know that I'll get a full speed connection whenever
I need it, instead of fighting with heavily shaped or throttled uncapped during
the day.

Now since my 50GB cap is costing me R350 per month, I have considered uncapped
for R219 per month.

The downfall for me, and a lot of other users I'm sure, is that if you have "Uncapped
Internet", you feel obligated to make the most of it, (Get the most for your money).

The bottom line is, with capped, you get what you pay for, with uncapped you try
your best to get more than you pay for....

*Hold on, that stupid idiot telling me my computer is infected is phoning again. :)*

OK, I'm back (Told the guy to make a sexual departure :D):

Is it worth the anguish of slow internet when you need it most?

Until we can get permanent "True Uncapped", it's not worth the trouble, rather
bargain hunt for good deals on capped internet.

I'm one of the 4MB guys that disagrees hehe :P You say at least you get a full speed connection, but your full speed is 1/10th of what I get from mine almost all the time. I don't use news servers, only torrents for large files, and after hours it flies - 250gb a month easy. And browsing/youtube/http downloads have never been slow no matter what time of day. Youtube at 360 and 480p run smoothly, and even 720p if I stop the torrents. My only complaint is that telkom 4mb + mweb = expensive.

I'm appealing to Anonymous to go after the people calling about our infected pc's , we like them like that, please leave us alone or we will make youtube vidoes about you.

Ok, what I should have said was: ALL 1/4/10mb users
will disagree. :)

What I was trying to get at was for 384K users, 100GB per month
is the same as "True Uncapped" because even downloading 24/7,
you won't be able to download more than that.

If you're on a 384K line with Basic Uncapped, you'll be lucky if you
can download 30GB in a month.

I agree completely that If you have a higher speed line (Especially
10mb), it wouldn't make sense to buy into anything other than
uncapped.

Anyways, line rental cost is the biggest problem with ADSL pricing
at the moment. Everyone has different needs for internet data
packages, but the one thing we can all agree on, is we need
ADSL Line Rental prices to be halved at the very least.

I was wondering where your getting your 50 gig at R350 from?

Mweb must laugh at this guy, such an outdated concept. My torrents during the day are coming down at 350Kb/s nearly as fast as during the evening. I just do not have to worry about reaching any cap, I use about 180GB per month.

you don't need to rape the internet dude. there is other people who want to use the service too.

Wayne. I have a Chinese proverb for you. "The man who says it is impossible should not interupt the man who is currently doing it".

I have a question for anyone who regularly goes over 150 -200 gigs per month. Are you telling me you are able to do such a quanatity of data without pirating anything? If you are pirating things you are pretty much in breach of every single AUP I have ever seen locally and internationally. Yet you are amongst the first to complain about speed / price etc.

In my opinion if you wanna steal everyones work for you own benefit at least be willing to pay the premium price for the unshaped uncapped account instead of whinging how you R450 uncapped account won't allow you to download the enitre interwebs...

I mean seriously guys this is what some users sound like:

"I can't believe how much money it costs to steal other peoples work, and then once I've stolen a lot of other peoples work I get throttled! How unfair is life? People devote their entire working lives to create this program / movie etc I wanna watch in glorius HD, now I am expected to actually pay for it? Whatever..."

That's better.

I'm a bargain hunter :). I have multiple ISP's Incredible Connect Vouchers + Afrihost 11GB etc.

(I never pay full price for an internet package.)

I still can't believe I missed that darn 11GB for R1 Afrihost Topup promo.

Anyhow, contrary to what I've been saying, I am actually considering Telkom or
MWeb Uncapped, but only in Feb when the vouchers have expired.

The only thing is, I'm a "selective downloader" who's running out of stuff to
download. I mean, let's be honest here. You guys that are pushing for 500GB's
here, what percentage of that is stuff you actually want? How much of it get's
wasted?

@uchoose, I sincerely doubt MWeb is laughing at me. Do you think their best
uncapped customers are the ones that rape it for all the data they can get?
