Capped vs Uncapped performance?

I've got an uncapped 4mb deal from WebAfrica that is so-so.

Thought I'd give a capped account a go so got a capped deal from Afrihost to try it out.

I have a Telkom 4mb line.

Bottom line?
Speedtest.net says that they are effectively the same - in fact, WebAfrica uncapped is marginally faster than Afrihost capped.

However, user experience is that Afrihost seems way slower when it comes to browsing.

I've changed the WebAfrica deal to capped, but that will only take place at the end of next month, so will not know if that makes a difference.

Anyone one else tried the capped vs uncapped thing with any useful results?

Capped is definitely much better than home uncapped - especially since your star rating is probably lower than 5 stars.

Home capped is usually better than home uncapped. I's why many of us are on Business uncapped accounts.

I came to a similar conclusion when I had to decided between capped or uncapped.

The difference is that I have a 2mbps line and is currently on WebAfrica home uncapped.

On which I get a steady 1.7 mbps download 95% of the time. And with all the capped products I tried from several ISP's and I get about the same.

Well here is a good idea if you want to test Web Africa capped compared to your current uncapped - go here and sign up for the 1 GB + 1 GB (it's free). I'm sure you'll find general browsing etc. better during work hours

Tried the following UnCapped 'Services':

MWeb (Shocking)
Afrihost (Was great, became shocking)
OpenWeb (Was given a test account - Great until I signed up - Totally unusable during the day & completely unpredictable afterhours)

Now with Web Africa - Capped 200Mb Account - Super Happy - On average 8.66Mb on a 10Mb synced line with 12ms local ping.

Two kids permanenly online gaming, numerous tablets, laptops & other wireless devices, CCTV & scheduled newsgroup downloads - No latency & everyone is super happy.

Conclusion: Stay far away from MWeb & OpenWeb, use Afrihost @ your own risk, never trust test accounts & capped is actually the way to go - You really don't need to download the Internet on a monthly basis - Greed is bad mmmkay.

Been using a capped account from Afrihost from the beginning of this month after my Cybersmart uncapped business account went from the sublime to the ridiculous.

Also wanted to compare performance between Web Africa capped and Afrihost capped and they both perform brilliantly for me. No discernible difference although if I were to choose one I think I would go with Web Africa.

Was on Afrihost Uncapped (when I had a 2MB line). Got upgraded to 4MB.
Tried Telkom's Uncapped. Eventually cancelled and went back to Afrihost.
Now on Afrihost's Capped 50+50 account. Far more superior quality when on Capped.
Happy as hell (patiently waiting for another price drop though)

Not sure how much cheaper bandwidth can get. I would be happy if R2 per gb were made the standard price. I see Axxess are also running a double your data promo but they charging R1.89 per gb!!

Web Africa have their anytime bandwidth + double your data to use between 12am-6am offer. Also pretty good, 200gb anytime + 200gb to use between 12am-6am for R599 per month!! Works out to R1.49 per gb, better than any uncapped account IMHO...

Capped will always be a better option if you care about quality instead of quantity. Our capped accounts run on a higher priority profile so all protocols will perform better than our uncapped accounts. Take a look at our bandwidth priority profiles KB article here for more info.
