Doesnt look that bad. Whats critical is getting the right panelshop! any shade of silver is hard to get right.

If he's in Cape Town I can recommend a brilliant panelshop that got my car's paint exactly right and it's also silver

Exactly, it vehicle looks beautiful for a year then the panels they've worked on start changing colour :D :D

Guessing they use their own mix of paint.

Here's an interesting point - at the time of the accident Bryte Insurance gave telephonic permission (got a reference number) to have the car towed. They didn't discuss which panel beater it was going to.

The following morning at 7:00a.m. (bear in mind the car was towed on Sunday afternoon) Avant Garde panel beaters sent a quote. I phoned them immediately and they were honest enough to admit they are not VW approved so they were told them not to touch the car................however, later that day the insurance broker was adamant they are VW approved and they were going to do the repairs.

Jeez, I lost it

By checking on the internet and phoning a VW dealerships it was easy to confirm Avant Garde ARE NOT VW APPROVED so I emailed them AND the broker telling them AGAIN not to touch the car and insisting it goes to the panel beater of my choice. It's important to have a paper trail.

Here's another funny thing - the tow truck driver and the insurance broker kept asking if the car is still under Motorplan. What's that got to do with it? Does anybody know?

When my metallic polo had its rear 3quater and door ripped open by the side of a glass carrying truck, My insurance let me choose who I want. Every single time any of my car's needed a claim (never my fault, promise, so it doest affect my premiums), they let me choose. I use Cannings every time for both our VW's or Audi in cape town.

There's no rear axle on a golf.
It's just control arms with mounted hubs. Worst damage is most likely the boot floor / spare wheel well. I would not stress about this at all.

I can attest to Cannings abilities and Damas Body Works as well in Goodwood. My insirance also lets me choose who I want to take the car to.

OH! Hahahahahaha, mainly been stressing about that - well about the middle axle and the wheel arm. That's the greatest news thank you Sinbad.

P.S. can't give you any more reps.

EDIT: hope Sinbad isn't joking :(

Particularly since the original panel beaters aren't VW approved.

Don't know what the broker was playing at. She did complain about towing/storage/vehicle release fees but that's not my problem.

You didn’t ask about the VERY rear axle though.

I meant the middle i.e. from front to back :D and the two (4) side wheel arms. Not sure what they're called.

Hope Sinbad isn't joking about no rear axle?

If it's only body work damage that's fine, the under carriage was a concern.

I was just teasing you by implying the possibility of a third axle existing!

No idea if there’s a rear one (would be a good idea to know since I have the Golf’s cousin from Audi and it’s most likely built the same way).

All good f2wohf :)

I'd have no problem driving it again. Just make sure that they use original VW parts, not pirate parts. I doubt that the chassis was bent by that amount of damage, so the original parts should fit perfectly.

Sorry about your ordeal though

All good f2wohf :)

By the way, post the panelbeater’s details and if you’re happy with it.

I have a bump in the front bumper to repair since ages but don’t do it since I’m confident in rocking up at any random panelbeater.

By middle axle I think you are referring to the driveshaft, which is what transfers power from the engine (in front) to the rear wheels, in a rear wheel drive or 4 wheel drive car. Your car is front wheel drive so it won't have one of those. If it did, it would look like this.

This is the chassis of a 4-wheel drive Golf.

This is the rear suspension of a Golf 7 (GTI in this case).

No rear axle linking the wheels, each wheel operates independently. There's quite some distance from the bumper to the suspension so I think yours will be fine.
