Car advice - Dodge or Renault

Much better option already. Depending on how flexible your budget is, you can also look at 2012 Fiestas, or even a 2012 Honda Jazz. They go for about R130k - R150k.

If the only way you can buy a car in the Megane/Golf bracket is by buying an old one with high KMs, then you can't really afford a car in that bracket.

Look I'm sure that not every single Renault is a dud, but it's far more prevalent across that brand than any other. Also resale value is rock bottom, but this doesn't matter to me.

However of the three friends I've had who bought Renaults they all either had endless problems or shocking costs with regards to services even from non-dealers due to the parts being crazy expensive.

One person even traded in the Clio 2 with endless problems they had on a Clio 3 because they simply couldn't resolve the problems with the car and offered them a deal. Clio 3 had a problem with the aircon three months in from brand new and they struggled to get it resolved with numerous visits to the dealer.

Then there's the design logic that makes stuff needlessly expensive. Like taking swopping the headlight bulbs through the wheel arches and crazy **** like that.

Personally I had a dud Ford Fiesta and will never buy a Ford again because of that, but in general I don't believe Ford is a bad brand and their number of issues per model is much less on average.

I just won't buy one again due to shocking support from the dealer with my MANY issues with the car.

That specific Meg i mentioned had already been sold, but my point was the one you're interested is over priced.

Are you not more interested in the new Megane? You can get a 2011/2012 1.6 for 140-150k - It will save you in the long run.

My other suggestion would be the Kia you mentioned - very reliable and cheaper spares.

Specifically I would suggest looking at a 2012 Kia Rio for R130k

The fact is purchasing any French car with such high mileage is a HUGE risk.

To the OP, don't cry when you suddenly have to dish out serious money to start replacing major components on the Renault. As some have already pointed out, the parts cost a small fortune and have to be imported from France which can easily take 4 - 6 weeks (or longer depending on availability).

I must admit the responses here really got me thinking hard, from here I think the best option is to buy a newer small car and i like the idea of paying low instalments in a short period. Just have to go and test drive Figo and Rio...will also look at the Fiesta
 
Just remember the GT is not the same as the F1.... Has the leguna motor if I remember correctly. Also would not buy either car..
