Heyyyyyyy

I'm a student at UCT and I'm looking for a car in the +-R150k region? My knowledge about cars is extremely limited.
I'll mainly be using it to drive around in the city/around the cape region.

Thanks!

Go to your nearest Fiat dealer - (Sandown Motors in the Cape) and ask them if you can have a look at a Fiat 500.

150 k should get you into an almost brand new Fiat 1.2 Pop, or a demo 1.2 Lounge.

Perfect car for Cape Town and a student - incredibly light on fuel, plus 5 Star ENCAP rating + 7 airbags - so it is also one of the safest small cars on the road.

Fiat 500?? Blech. That interior sucks.

You could get a very very low mileage second hand Ford Fiesta. That's probably what I would recommend.

Off Topic: What the hell kind of student can afford a R150k car?

On Topic:
800

Kia Rio 1.4
If female:
600

Or a brand new Nissan Micra.

He didn't say he was female.

LOL. Use the Jammie shuttles. It adds so much to the varisty experience/ more memorable. In hindsight I wished I joined at least one club/society while I was there...

Thanks for all the advice. The sponsor of the car(dad) would like to buy it and register it in Richards Bay... I just need to find a way to get it down to Cape Town, or I'll have to drive it down.

drive

its cheaper than the train or truck which is around R5k

and you can get used to long distance driving

If you are planning to sell it once it goes out of warranty - this is as good value as you will get:

R147K for a very snazzy car with insane fuel economy. French cars out of warranty are problems though. So if you plan to live with it for a longer time, I'd rather go for a VW, Honda, Ford or something similar.

http://www.ford.co.za/buying/ford-blue-sky-offers?intcmp=Hotspot_BlueSkyOffers_Home (check out the fiesta TDCi on special, very good fuel economy)
http://www.toyota.co.za/ranges/yaris - entry level :(

The Vivo is crap. Rather a second hand polo.

Wtf... R150k for a student car :wtf:... R40k tops.. So an Opel superboss or a not historically significant Opel Monza...

Oh and the superboss needs to have the vin tag removed to be real

Get a Vivo but tell the toppie you want the optional bluetooth sound system and an aircon. It's a vw so it will run for a long time and when it's time to sell, you will get a willing buyer at a good price, better than french cars.

For a little town runaround all of those are fine. If you want to take the risk second hand sill give you better value. But there's always the chance of getting someone else's problems.
