Car Advice

That looks like a super deal.

I agree - it looks great!

We do that too - we will turn certain "stock" cars into demo units, then we are able to claim extra from the factory and sell a brand new car at a much better price. I've done 2 that way this month.

Thanks for all the advice. The sponsor of the car(dad) would like to buy it and register it in Richards Bay... I just need to find a way to get it down to Cape Town, or I'll have to drive it down.

Then it makes sense that you buy a Fiat 500 from me in Durban! :D

Do you really want a new car as a student? I found that at varsity my car was always being bumped and scraped by stupid student drivers in the really tricky and tiny UCT parking spaces. Also, you want to be able to have a filthy car full of fast food papers and empty booze bottles and not worry about your new upholstery.

So I would recommend a decent, 2-3 year old used VW Polo or similar size hatchback (much easier to squeeze into narrow parallel parkings than a sedan). Also, safety for me would be essential as there are too many drunk drivers on the roads at 3am party time.

Rather take the balance of the R150k, stick it in a nice Unit Trust and when you start work in a few years time, you will have a nice nest egg to start life.

Suzuki Swift 1.2 is great value for money or if you can find one, a low mileage Corsa Essentia 1.4

Yeah, I would also much rather get a cheaper car for R40k that can get scratched. My dad is very conservative and hence doesn't want phone calls at 2am about how the car broke down etc. My grandpa has a very nice Alfa that he wants to sell for R30k which is in a very good condition, but my dad is weary of the price of spares.

What do you guys think of the Ford Fiesta Ambiente 1.4?

A lot of people like it, I've been in one a bunch of times cause my friends bf drives one, but imo, it seems a little boring.

I'm sure the more informed members on MyBB can give greater input than I, however.

Can't believe i missed [-]another opportunity to spew my opinion online[/-] this thread.

You're a young male student? What the hell is wrong with you man, get something second hand with a bit of excitement, not some ****box repmobile!

It's going to get dinged or scraped at Uni by the moronic drivers there, so a new car is a waste.

Some examples of your options (R100,000 to R150,000):

Honda Civic Type R - Looks great and goes well down at the coast
Ford Fiesta ST - Because small and lively = fun
Renault Clio Sport - Like the ST, these can be massive fun
VW Polo GTI - As above
Alfa Romeo GT - This will be fscking pimp, you'll be drowning in "insert your preferred gender's genitalia here"
...and many others not listed. Time to act your age dammit!

If you want to go the sensible, logical, boring route however (since the folks are paying), get a Honda Jazz/Ford Fiesta.

Insurance >= R2000 pm :wtf:

If daddy is paying who cares.

Even if daddy isn't paying for insurance, I'd jump at the opportunity for a free car if I only need pay the insurance, albeit at R2k

+1.
Probably won't give a **** about the car and bump the **** out of it at campus parking.

I had my 1st Alfa while at varsity. It broke me, could never drive a 'normal' car again. Best choice I ever made with a car. Changed my view of cars completely

But a Fiesta ST would probably be more 'practical'.
