Hey, might sound like a stupid question but excuse my ignorance :P

Just got a Polo Classic and now wanting to put some sound into my car, there problem herein lies I think companies try to pull the ring out of it. I am quite happy with the mid-range speakers and deck at the moment and just want to beef up the bass a bit. Now as far as my understanding goes, surely I don't need a 1000w AMP and crossovers as they trying to sell me. I just want something simple and don't want to compete with the Taxi's. Here's my idea.

1. approx. 8" or 10" sub (Pioneer?)
2. approx. 300w AMP
3. box in the boot

Because in theory the speakers can run off the deck and the amp is just there for the sub?
So basically, should get away with around R2000 at max and not R5000+ what they quoted?

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Beo...

Back when I had my Polo, I just put in a 12" RF Punch P2 and a RF PBR300 monoblock amp. Sounded great because the Polo already had great mid-high frequency speakers. Came in at around R6k excl. installation. What's your budget?

i installed a 12" w/ 400w monoblock from cash convertors myself... bout R1600 after I got some insulation tape and good leads.

there is a sub at the boksburg fleamarket....it has a built in amp 8inch sub and is fairly decent for 1200 i think...
it is a flat sub so will fir under seat...i got it for my bakkie since i don't have a boot...

not very loud that your mirrors vibrate but just what i was looking for...

Keep in mind, you will need a line out converter, as the default VW HU doesn't have RCA out.

We got a place to install a 12" sub + box + amp and cabling and it set him back R3k, incl installation. It will be cheaper if you do it yourself, but will take longer and most probably not look as good. :)

that's kinda the thing, i want it to look decent and one's I've done in the past... err, haven't! ;)

well it is only a weekend car (most of the time) and to spend more than 3k for sound, i can't warrant that.
and also if i modify anything in or out the car the wife will get pink seat covers, hmmm.... is it really worth it :P

thanks for the input guys.
