Hey Folks,

Trust you're all well & dandy? - My German tank needs to have her battery replaced. After some online research and using different "battery-finders" - the verdict is that I need a 652C or 658C battery. (I've decided to take a 658C because to have leeway for future entertainment improvements)

That said: can anyone recommend me an affordable place to have it replaced in Cape Town?

Thanks in advance,
A

PS: The tank is a 1976 Merc W116 280S

Battery Centre or some such place...

The pricing will all be much of a muchness.

Bought a 652 a month ago for R900 . From a local spares shop.. durban

So as for price u can expect in the R1200 range.. as for where..... as mentioned Battery center or the likes of a midas. .

Shot for the recommendation. I forgot to mention I have done some pre-shopping.

BatteryCenter want to charge me R1800 (652C) or R2300 (658C) including taking my current battery. (An extra R170 if not) - this for a Raylite Battery.
Vonde Batteries in Maitland are more reasonable asking for ~R1500 an Exide or Willard 658C.

I quickly discovered that BatteryCenter prices are uber inflated hence my posting a feeler here for potential sources.

PS: For anyone else interested in "Which battery to get" - this comment/thread was an info mine.

Battery centre - they know what they're doing plus they give the best guarentees and support

Actually the price will be very much of a muchness.

Just from one Battery Centre to another I had a price difference of R400+.

OP : Call Goodhope Spares...best price I could find. And they'll even come install it for you quickly as part of the price is giving the old one for a deposit.

Battery centre was always the cheapest for me. And they install it, quick and easy

Battery is a battery is a battery.

The EXACT same battery was far cheaper elsewhere. And like I say phoning three different Battery Centres's all had different prices with massive fluctuations.

The guarantee is with the manufacturer, doesn't matter who you buy from.

Intriguing to say the least....

In my area I phoned around and pretty much everywhere was charging roughly the same amount for the battery I needed recently.

As I recall it was the Cape Town, Woodstock and Brackenfell branches that I called.

Completely..not even closely related...in price.

Try midas for their 'house brand' which actually a Exide with a midas sticker on it.

No one mentioned Willard? And BC charge R170 so they can take the battery? Wtf.

Try get an EFB technology battery. Also I found that the local Battery Master are great.

Basically it works the same as beer/gas empties. So fees quoted are usually without old one. IT sounded rather opportunistic to me hence why I am not too keen to give my old battery. It's in great niche - just happens to be too small a size for my tank.

From the sounds of it - I should make peace with R1500 for a 658C.
