Car breaks down one month after being serviced

No it is the turning sound as if its about to start but it just keeps going.

No way of knowing you have a faulty starter unless it starts to give problems.

If there's a winding sound it's your started bandix and not the starter itself. Take the car to an auto electrician not a mechanic.

Know your shyte before you go to these stealerships, before you get shafted, because R5k for a "service" is ridiculous.

Does not seem like a starter after all. There's the "cla che che che che" but no vrooom

If its the GTi then it may have a timing issue. They were prone to jumping a tooth or 3 on the timing belt which caused all sorts of expensive issues.

I would stop trying to start it...just incase you do more damage

Excuse me if it's a novice question, but how do they do that? faulty tensioner?

The engine (VW and Audi) used a hydraulic tensioner, if the motor turned over without enough oil pressure then it could result in the belt jumping a tooth.

Apparently rolling in gear after switching off or dirty oil channels were some of the causes of insufficient pressure to the tensioner. They did come out with a revised part afterwards. VW were known to quote at least 13k to replace if the car was out of warranty
