Hi, what would you say is better.. pay off a car whose motorplan is expiring or get a another car? The car is a Mercedes C 300 2009 model 67000km

Pay off the C300! All that extra cash in your pocket a month, you could put some of it away as a fund should anything go wrong.

Just a reminder my merc's alternator k@ked the other day and it was just overdue on its motor plan, that forked out 16k on my part.
And yes its a sports model...

16k...
That's only two months' repayments on a replacement car... perspective ;)

Wow, you still have a long way to go to pay off the car - and you already out of motorplan.

Whats the trade-in on the current car and what car do you intend to buy? If you buying a car with significant more life on the motorplan might be worthwhile.

Else pay off your debt first.

Stealership pricing.

Pretty sure you'll battle to find an aftermarket alternator part for that car. Also, merc pricing on parts is mostly pretty good. It's quite unusual to find another part cheaper. Even importing directly is often more expensive.

Pay it off and keep it for as long as you can. It's a Mercedes, you don't get much better than that.

The thing is how badly did that alternator break ? If it was something simple like the brushes or a bearing a mechanic could have replaced just those parts inside the alternator for a fraction of the price.

67k km is nothing for such a big engine, keep it. My fathers c180k is on 250k km and still tough as nails, only thing thats stopped it going is a starter motor, other than that just the aircon even still on its first clutch

yeah that's true.

Decide if you would rather have a R6500 pm "transport expense" on your budget forever, and thus drive a newish car every 3-4 years, or would you be able to fund the R6500 for the next 22 months and then also come up with R10k-R50k per year for repairs/maintenance?

My advice, stay away. It will cost you a lot now, once it's paid off, you will be lucky to get half the value back.

I hear lots of people talking about rent-to own options available. Not sure from where but do your research on it.

I agree with Nokkie, debt is unnecessary financial burden and stress.

Mercedes motorplan is only for 6 years. Got the car in 2012

2012 + 6 = 2018 - 2015 = 3 years remaining, if my very basic math skills are correct.

I wouldnt call that "motorplan expiring"
