Car Insurance 2018 Help

+1000. Take this guys advice, all those insurance companies mentioned above are terrible and I wouldn’t touch them with a 10 foot pole.

I highly recommend “Tuff stuff insurance” through REAM brokers

REAM Brokers :crylaugh:
Thought you were joking, but I googled, and they have a website and Jhb contact number, so you weren't joking.

Hahaha they might have a funny name but they sure do know what they are doing.

Would travelling to clients qualify as being used for Business? I don't really think so.

Cheers for the effort, you've been a big help. Will give the kind lass a ring during lunch tomorrow. Lets hope going through brokers make a diff. Will update everyone through the week

With my Virseker quote they put me on for business because I'm a trainer / make presentations to clients at their respective premises. So I'd say yes

MiWay has a third option called "Professional" for lawyers, accountants, architects etc... as you travel to clients to service them.

I guess a way to reason it is... do you claim for business travel on a regular basis, then yes. I mean you don't sell newspapers off the back of your bakkie... which seems to be a direct causal link but I digress.

Yes it is if you see more than one client during the day and if you don't drive there and stay there all day.

Yeah makes sense if you are at clients more than at your own office.

I saw it more as the car is only facilitating you to get to your job not so much to actually do the work.

But yeah I guess if its the majority spent at clients makes sense and especially more than one in any given day.

Yes, I wrote my car off about 3 days after joining (lady smashed into the rear of my car on the highway), they paid out within a few days. Had a few dents, broken windows since and they've been excellent every time. Premium is adjusted annualy, but then I just phone them, have a friendly fight, and they revise it downwards again.

What's the best tactics to use to encourage them to revise your premuim down?

I need to try this because despite never claiming my insurance just keeps going up and up and my retail value down.

Miway policy states anything more than 1 trip per week for business purposes, under which they include going to see clients you must get business use cover.

Anybody has a broker to recommend (preferably Joburg based) that doesn’t require 1h on the phone to fill your details and is effective and responsive by email?

Get a quote somewhere else.

Then have your own insurance beat that quote.

I do this every other year and usually get the premium down while also getting more cover for the money.

It not that simple anymore and the laws FAIS, POPI and FICA have ensured that insurance is a PITA and a long CYA exercise.

Try getting a never heard of name + surname correctly when it is over 30 letters and you have a foreign accent.

It’s actually a nightmare every time I want to deal with an insurance.

Took Hollard three rectifications and like 6 weeks to get it right, which is why I’m definitely over doing it on the phone.

Lol, I had the same thing with Telkom, took going into the branch twice and repeatedly on the phone till they finally got the spelling right

Does that technique work even with a broker, wouldn't they get a little cheesed off if you did that year in year out?

Discovery is fairly decent if your monthly fuel bill is around R1600 or if you use the Gautrain. You can get up to half of it back which may put your bill cheaper than other insurers. There's also weekly rewards like smoothies for driving well if that's your thing.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, just need to close this chapter. One of the biggest frustrations is when someone starts a post and fails to close the topic considering there were many generous people along the way, who took a keen interest in helping a stranger.

I didn't ring the person in question I'm afraid, however I would like to thank you, kind sir. I did call Santam's call centre, as in my view, Santam as a vehicle insurance provider should be first choice if money isn't so much of a stress. Their premiums were around R800 to R900 per month which was uncomfortably high. Can't recall if there was an excess. The problem I ran into was that the vehicle was in my old man's name and Santam wouldn't budge thereon.

^^this. I can vouch. I received a quote from a broker at PSG for R635 pm and I didn't have hassles with the vehicle not being registered in my name. The cool thing as SaiyanZ mentioned is that you get a fuel incentive of 25% of your spend, with a benefit up to R800 per month for putting in petrol at BP / Shell. Its paid into your account... so if you put in R1600 petrol into your car in a month, you get R400 (25%) back at the end of the month and to me that means it subsidises your insurance premium. Can't exactly vouch for claim efficiency / service.

Hope you come out right 🤙ðŸ¼

Thank you, brethren. My old man decided he'd carry the cost as he was moving all the family cars to a new insurance provider at preferential rates. Hope all is well with you, bud?
