Howdy there mates

Just out of curiosity; with the rate of civil unrest/protests in our beloved country, the two car insurance policies that I've had with company A and company B explicitly say that I as the insured am not covered for these protests.

However, both policies (as an extra) do say that I have SASRIA on my policy, and after doing a bit of reading, I see that SASRIA is the: "short-term insurance for riots, strikes, terrorism, civil commotion and public disorder to corporate/ commercial and individual policyholder."

Now my question is, which one is in effect in this instance?

The area I live in is at the core of most of these protests; student protests, pikitup/municipality workers etc. So the likelihood of being affected by these is increasingly high.

SASRIA is a government policy, basically you claim from that, it's passed through by your insurer.

Your insurer doesn't cover you directly for that specific risk, but SASRIA does. A resultant claim would, under correction, still be through your insurer but ultimately against SASRIA's cover.

I should check if I'm covered... never thought about that and I've had to go near these places fairly often

See it as cheap insurance (FWIW) @R5 a month. Or the price of a burger and chips spread over a year :)

I was under the impression SASRIA cover is forced?

Maybe it's just always been automatically added because I've never not had it.
