Car Insurance

i won't be surprised if insurance companies start baseing premiums on repair costs on particular vehicles instead of vehicle values since most claims are for damage not theft.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but am in the same boat atm, or almost. I'm 25 as it is, but find the premiums rather excessive still. Buying a 2007 Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 (8v) Active 5dr and have had quotes floating around from R783.93 to about R1255.00, which still seems too much. I've tried Outsurance (which currently insures my home contents and out-and-about stuff, but they refuse to go lower than R1000), Virgin, Dialdirect, Budget (the cheapest so far at just under R800), and hippo (gave me a few options, but all high, eg R1000 plus).

I currently drive a car that is insured under someone else's name and is with Outsurance. Though I have claimed once for rear-ending someone many years ago, and recently for towing service, I have never actually experienced any real issues. They were fast and efficient always. But the premium you pay for that is worth taking note...

My mom was with A&G, and what a nightmare. I will try and avoid them as much as possible.

Anyway, who else would you suggest. I've heard mixed things about Miway (apparently they are actually Sanlam)

MiWay ..... Guh .... don't get me started.
They got a payment last month & another this month ..... 14:00 this afternoon I cancelled.!
They have not send me any paperwork to date and have not processed the inspection done on the vehicle.
They don't respond to e-mails & don't phone back when they say they will(not to talk about the background noise & laughter when you phone them) ... customer service sux & this is not the way i want to do business :(

LOL...I"m with MiWay but through a broker...R634.24pm...Yes, they did not send me the papers through the mail, yes I had to call them to find out if the inspection was with them...whether they process it or not, it was done in time as stated! They processed it after calling them again, I don't deal with MiWay direct, I deal with the broker, that's what their fees are for. I'll be 25 in Nov and by Jan/Feb I'm looking at a brand new performance car...I can only speculate how much the insurance will be by then...something must be done about this crap where young people are all cut from the same cloth I was once old raggedy cotton, now I'm egyptian cotton...lol
