ey guys

Fiat uno is acting up, or rather jerking off....

it jerks when i give it some gas, almost like cutting out, but its really random. My dad said it could be the carb acting up or the fuel lines or the plugs that have moisture on them or dirt. (which hasnt been serviced due to financials which finally have improved)

it is due for its service later this month, you know, spark plugs / oil filter + oil change / cambelt / wheel alignment but could it be the carb needing a tune or is it busted?

im going to the garage tomorrow morning :(

any other ideas ?

Title made think think of something else :erm:

Try some spray-in carb cleaner. Take off the air cleaner and start the engine. Give it a 1-2 second burst. It will slow down and then go back to regular idling. Repeat 4-5 times.

Also check any pipes between air-cleaner body and carb, if one has pulled loose it will also jerk-off (naughty phrase)

Is the car for sale? I'm looking for something cheap

hahah the thread is full of naughty phrases :P . nope car not for sale , its a relic :D seen the snow and kruger with it lol (got the boot badges and photo to prove it ! )

im at work atm, will check quickly as it is still light outside !

well i inspected all pipes , pipes are good. connections good. carb is leaking fuel as i can smell it and its visible slightly on the engine and seems to be a dust or grimey build , like black dust almost. dont have screw drivers with me so i cant take air cleaner body off to check carb properly.

answer ?

clean + retune carb ? (and the other usuals as described in OP)

Might also be crappy plugs and crappier plug-leads. Plug leads have more stress when throttling up and can break down. Same when you go uphill and apply more throttle

Carb cleaner is also quite expensive, although lasts years and years

i did skip a service due to financials , so even if its brand name plugs they would still get crappy after a while. but atleast tomorrow morning the little uno will get a good scrub a dub dub lol

If the plug leads are over 5 years old, replace them. Bougicord is s good brand

sorry jong, my english is great but not that good, plug leads.....that would mean .... the plugs that fit over the spark plugs ? :D i think i hit it !

they are as old as the car , 10 years

That would be the 1st place i'd start,if petrol can come out air can go in.

Sounds like the carb fuel air mix. It really needs to be cleaned and the mix reset.

Best to change the spark plugs as well. All else should be fine.

how much mileage can a oil filter really take ? ive already done 30k km's , which is when i replace it usually.

do you have an idea how much spark plug leads will cost me ? and the cleanup and mix reset price ? just a rough guess for a fiat uno.

a friend of mines uno carb was also leaking, small gasket, the gaskets come in a set, i would send the carb in to be refurbished, doesn't cost all that much and then new gaskets and service it all at the same time, new plugs, new filters and new oil.

on a related note, many people who are strapped for cash let their cars go unserviced to save some bucks to cope however this can and usually results in more costs in the long run. a standard service yourself will cost say R250-R400 depending on what brand of service parts you buy and will take you around an hour (time for oil to drain etc)

Service the car first. (Make sure to wash the engine.)
Then check if you still have issues.
The problem you have might be a plug or something that might be sorted by a good service.

Dude, my Uno is doing the exact same thing. When driving and accelerating the enjin starts cutting out. As if petrol is not getting to it. The car shakes and it happens randomly.

If it is the 1400 uno, SX I think it uses a central point injector. it might be dirty injector.

Possible causes

Dirty injector
leaking injector
low fuel pressure
dirty maf sensor
leaking vacuum pipes
plugs
leads
