Hi Guys...

Does anybody know if it's possible to renew your license without having the form that they mail you. I moved to Pretoria, but my car is still registered in Cape Town. Can I just go to the Post office with my old disc, and ask them to give me the necessary forms to renew?

Yes you can. Take your ID or valid drivers licence and proof of residence with you. They will give you the relevant forms to fill and all should be fine, provided they are not off-line

Not sure if the PO does anything more then just renewals. You need to have a new license number allocated so rather visit your local licensing office instead. No need for the renewal notice. Complete an RLV Form (Sections B & C) and have your ID and a copy with. Pay the fees and they will issue a new number. Have plates made.

PS. Just check that the licensing office is open because of the strike going on atm.

It depends on the SAPO branch you frequent. Some of the branches do more than just renewals. Also a good idea is to take along your own certified copies of both ID and drivers....... most times their copy machines are over-worked and broke :(

I went through the same thing about a month ago. I just had one of my family members renew the licence for me in CPT (Sent them a copy of my ID). Someone told me that If I renew it here they will not give me a CPT registration again, but a GP one instead as I changed my address to my JHB one to get any fines, etc. To avoid any hassle I just had it renewed in CPT.

Thanks guys... I also heard that there was a online facility available for renewing licenses... anybody know the url? That would be much quicker..

Not really keen on changing my registration to Pretoria... happy to leave it as is... unless there is some law that states that the car must be licensed in Gauteng?

You must notify the registering authority within 21 days of changing your postal, residential or business address, even if you do not leave the registering area.

You also have to update your driver licence details.

As far as i know you cannot renew your licence from another province at the post office (people ahead of me in the queue was told this)

Yep, one can only register a vehicle at a post office in the same registration authority.
