Hi guys

My bro wants to change the OEM radio in his 02 Fiesta to something with atleast BT.

maxresdefault.jpg

OEM radio looks similar to that one. Will post the actual pic when he gets 1.
Work friend says its a double din. So I will possibly check for a trim piece to fill the gap.

A few points and/or questions :
  • Any good media player suggestions under 2k, preferably with removable face?
  • Do the double dins come with removable face or other theft deterents?
  • Anything worthwhile with carplay and android auto in the price bracket or say <=3k?
  • Any other points to consider with this specific car?

Thanks

You don't have to get a double din radio, you can get a single din.. which one you will get depends on the face plate you can get your hands on..

There are NO worthwhile options with android auto or carplay at this price point, though any of pioneer, Sony, JVC at this price point are going to be good options..

Something like this maybe @ronz91 ?

nice find with decent reviews, I am skeptical about 1gb ram tho.

But main concern is tempting people to break in coz of the big shiny screen.

For any android based head unit, you want at least 4gb of ram.. I went down this rabbit hole not too long ago and the only worthwhile android based options locally start from 10k.. the usual brands, Pioneer etc that offer android auto and carplay support, starts from about 8k..

I eventually went overseas and imported a android based unit from China that's considered the best on the market.. even that set me back about 7k..

does the chinese unit offer more features than the 8k pioneers, sonys etc?

Absolutely.. being android based my specific unit supported android auto and carplay and was essentially an android tablet in my car.. they even provide periodic updates and I was able to update the unit after a few months to get wireless android auto support..

I guess drop a link for anyone who stumbles upon this thread in future

Just shove a cheap android tablet in there.
Connect to amp and away you go.

it is the same as earlier
Everything is now done via a smartphone, all you need is a way to add Bluetooth the existing Headunit, normally there will be a cd shuttle or some kind of aux in that you can use to add a BT dongle. And often you can find options that will plug directly into the oem harnesses to add Bt. The nicer ones have a small breakout box with media controls so you can pause and skip music and answer calls

How noisy is that at high speeds and does it have a chinglish “bru toof connected” or similar prompt that blasts your ear drums each time it connects to your phone?

I have something like that but at freeway speeds it adds an annoying alternator whine to the sound and it has a overly loud Bluetooth connected prompt that can be very loud depending on how loud your previous source was.

already have one of these. sadly the OEM radio doesn't work, just the CD I think.
Probably be easier to find a working 2hnd radio and get one of those devices, they work well
