So woke up this morning to find my car won't start. The engine makes a clicking noise and just doesn't stop. Any idea what it could be? Dead starter motor? Not battery as electricals seem fine.

If the motor doesnt want to turn over and you just hear clicking, chances are its your battery.

You radio, lights etc will still work even if you battery is on its way out. They require a lot less current then turning the motor over.

Happened to me last year. Just clicking but everyone else worked. Fitted a new battery the next day.

Sounds like battery. Do the lights dim when you turn the key?

Tried to jump? Might just be a dying battery. Also check your remote with spare, transponder could have failed if sudden.

Didn't jump. If it was transponder i assume it'd display the key thing on screen. May be battery I left car at the airport for a week while on biz trip

yah as a battery gets older it tends to die if left alone. My wifes car had a six year battery, was perfectly fine. We left the car standing for a week and then same story, click click click. Jumped it, drove it around but next morning same again.

1) Battery
2) Battery ok-ish but not strong enough to turn the motor
3) Solenoid on starter motor

Tap the starter with a block of wood especially the solenoid and maybe it will start then.

It was the starter. Solenoid fine so will recon the starter. Car push starts and battery tested fine.
