Car Purchased breaking down

Have a look in the Service Manual, there is a chance that a slip or something of paper in the Owners manual has the original owners details.

Tried to get the information of the previous driver from Audi Northcliff and Audi SA and they refuse to give it to me. Which I can understand, but how will I get the information then and make contact with the previous owner.

I'm surprised that AudiSA is not sticking it to the dealer, they are quite good about keeping a good rep. Tweet about it to @audisouthafrica with a #fail #brandminus and see what happens?

tske the car to AA , and let them do an inspection, it may cost you a few Rand, but it will give you PLENTY of amo against this dealer, they are very thorough

Thats BS regarding NON RUNNER.

And ask for an independent report from the AA - if it was in an accident, tell him you don't want it back as he lied to you.

dude that is such a bs story, first he bought it off an auction and they would start it then if they could as they would get more for it, complete hogwash.

i still stick with taking it back.

Ask him to put it in writing that the vehicle was not in an accident... and what he said regarding non runner... R50 says he won't :p

This is south Africa, it's possible to do anything here, provided you have the cash - like say, register a code 3 as a code 2... :/

Sounds to me like this dealer is taking you for a ride. Is it not possible to send it to Audi for an inspection?

I know my car went to them for a full inspection before I bought it. That was piece of mind for me.

He's taking you for a ride...

Get the stuff in writing then get the CPA ppl involved.... and get your money back.

I had a bit of a nightmare buying a used car as well. I bought it in December last year. On the first day the drive shaft going to the back diff started squeaking. Took it to the dealer who sold me the car and they fixed it. Just before I got home the car started to smoke on hard acceleration or from stand still.
I took the car back again. They took it to Nissan who removed the tappet cover. There was a BIG mess in the engine, so the service manager requested all the invoices of the previous services (service book was up to date though). It turned out that the car has never been serviced (car had about 76k km on).

In the end they gave me the deposit and trade in money back and they also settled the finance account at the bank.

So basically my advice is to ALWAYS keep track of dates of phone conversations, etc and get everything in writing - like after talking to them on the phone, send an email to them (almost like minutes of a meeting) on the conversation. If possible, also keep the general manager or CEO of the company in the loop of everything. It's also wise to get a contact at the finance house who you can also CC on any emails so that they are also aware of the dispute.

Oh, and I would also take the car back if you haven't done so already, but if possible take the car for a full inspection to the car manufacturer dealers and as them to write a full report on the car.

That's what I've done and luckily everything turned out well in the end.

Good luck and I hope you get this sorted!

The dealers is lying to you.
They will ALWAYS start a car on auction if they can.

He's also lying about buying it from BMW. He bought it on auction himself, probably for 10 times less than he's charging you, and now he wants to make money out of you..
Who knows how many others he's caught out this way that weren't as knowledgeable as you and just believed everything he said?

I agree, get him to put on paper:
#Where he bought this car
#That the car has never been in an accident
#All the repairs that has been done on the car

Then take the car to the AA and see whether they will back up his story about repairs and non Code 3
If the AA disagrees on points 3 and two, try and get in touch with your Auctioneers and find out why the car was a non-runner (don't know if you'd be able to get this info, but you might as well try)

Then, if he doesn't refund you, get a lawyer involved.

I've never really understood why dealers are so dishonest. Like, its so cliched, but its so true.

Dealers like him should be personally for their lies. If I lie about selling something, its fraud. He should get the same deal - prison time.

Maybe contact the traffic dept and ask them for the previous owners details??

If the vehicle was marked as a Non-Runner.. then I would assume its a Code 3 rebuild... you can check with the Motor Licensing Bereau...

But take it back.....

I've been down this road before, and thankfully the dealership I bought from was loosely affiliated to McCarthy's so when I got them involved I got results quickly.
where does the CPA stand regarding this?

I'm understanding they said it was not in an accident before, they lied... Aren't they suppose to say what is wrong with the car?

Wow dude!

First up, the dude lied to you, guaranteed. Doesnt matter whether he was not aware of the accidents it has been in, he said that it had not been in any accidents. That is what he said. If he wasnt sure, the correct thing to say would have been, "Not to my knowledge". But he said no accidents. Therefore he lied.

Especially things like the subframe tell me it was in an accident. Those dont just suddenly go. they get damaged by accidents.

It was a major accident! He is lying through his teeth! A minor accident involves maybe changing the lights and the bumper. A major accident where the suspension is damaged, thats big.

When you speak to this guy, keep the following in mind: every single thing he says to you, except hello and goodbye, is a lie. Every. Single. Thing.

Decide what you want out of this. At this stage, I would probably request my money back. Call CPA on him if you have to and give them the evidence. However, the important thing will be to prove that you bought this car on the condition that it was not code 3 (it is code 3 if it was scrapped) and that it was not in major accidents. If you have any paper from him, proving that, then you are fine, and he must refund you.

Subframes etc replaced?

That car has been in a god almighty smash....
